H7 Headlight Bulb Technical Question

From reading the owners manual, I see that our S10's use H7 headlight bulbs. The H7 is a single element bulb, with a two-prong electrical connector, used mostly for low beams or fog lamps in automotive dual headlamp and accessory fog light applications. So, how does the Super Tenere get both high beam and low beam out of H7 bulbs?

Have only had my S10 for a couple of weeks, but it looks like both headlights are on all the time, meaning that one headlight isn't dedicated just for low beam, and the other headlight isn't dedicated just for high beam, as the BMW GS's and GSA's and some Triumphs do.

I believe there is a shutter that comes down for low beam. Bulb intensity doesn't change. Mechanical vs. Electrical.

This is a terrible system too. In the event of a shutter failure it's going to be a $400-$500 repair or use some Southern Engineering to repair. If I ever lost the shutter, I would probably lock it in the low beam position and use a set of running lights for high beam.

Its a projector light body, made for HID and Halogen globes and is a good system. A simple electromagnetic arrangement like a relay switch, simple and robust! Rarely a has problems! Do not fear this system, get a H7 HID kit and you will love your lights!

I always find some intertainment in telling those riders that a headlight is burned out. They claim it's not, I respond with 'What dork would put two headlights on a bike and only use one? Fix that low budget crap.'

LMAO!!... I'll get some good mileage outta that with a certain uppity BMW snob! He can't tolerate ANY criticism of his beloved GS's and GSA's. I'll have him grinding his teeth with his jaw muscles all tensed up, and the little blood vessels on his temples popped out!

I know the type. An Aprilla rider friend that also owned Suzuki bikes before always did the mod to run both headlights as hi/lo instead of one each. Really freaked out the purists in the Aprilla crowd.
