Hi all, I bought a Competition White ST yesterday and already got 400 km on it.
I am very gently breaking it in and that can be frustrating at times but it is defenitly worth it.
The days when I used to build an emotional hausse for a new bike is over, now the bikes have to prove to me
they are worth my feelings :)

First impressions of the Super Tenere is good though, the engine is a bit "rude" at throttle from lower rpm's (shakes) but I have a feeling that
this may have to do with the clutch and will smooth out with some miles, time will tell. Midrange (where I am allowed to run) is wonderful, great feeling and smoothness.
The bike is very well balanced, steady and very comfortable.

I have rode in the rain and it works perfectly, longer distances are effortless. The windprotection is complete apart from some turbulence on the top of the helm.

I have been hanging here for a few weeks before I bought my bike!

So again, Hi!
Daniel

Welcome to the Forum Daniel and congrats on your White SuperT!!!! Are you using "T" or "S" when you notice the "rude" engine perfomance at lower rpm's?

Using the "T" mode.. oddly, should behave the opposite I guess?
Yes, you would think that the "T" mode would smooth things out more. Perhaps it will improve when the break-in period is over.

Welcome Daniel. Where are you in Sweden? I live in Nyköping area. The rudeness that you talk about is part of the engine character. It can get grumpy if you try to give it heavier gas at lower rpm's especially in 2nd gear or higher and when the bike is under load. This is big twin and feels best when spun up a bit.

Here is a few pictures of my bike.

Rmac, I live in Kungsgården, 4 mil från Gävle. We have nice roads for the super tenere here and in Dalarna (we live close to Dalarna).
After some more riding, the rudness I mention either seems to get less noticable or I am adopting to ride the machine smoother.
I am sure now, it will be of no concern in the future :)

Looks good s-flow.

I was up in the Gävle, Hudiksval, Dalarna region last summer with my DL650. My son and I are thinking about doing something similar this year, but with the S10 instead of-course...We like the idea if fishing further up in the North, but Sweden is a very long country and takes quite a bit of time to get up there (and back...)

Not sure how many have bought an S10 in Sweden so far? I know one other guy in the Nyköping region who bought a Raven S10 with all the kit recently. I bought mine last October (an ex-demo 2010 first-edition with only 160km on it). The guys in the shop said that I was probably one of the first (if not the first) to own an S10 in Sweden, because at the time they weren't really supposed to sell the demo units that they got last June/July.

Back to the subject of the engine. There are two matters in my mind to this otherwise great engine, 1) torque dip between 4k and 5.5k rpm and 2) the occasional low rpm grumpiness. Like you just said it's a matter of adapting riding style to minimize the occurance of these small issues (adapting to the bike). I do the majority of my riding below 4k rpm, shifting up gear at 4k rpm to avoid the flat zone (dip) that comes afterwards. This is plenty enough for most riding situations. If out playing (which I am doing less of now after recently receiving a speeding ticket), I tend to roll the throttle gradually through the 4k to 5.5k region and then wring it's neck. For me this seems to get the most out of the engine, in other words not demand too much out of the throttle in the "flat zone" and then let it rip >:D. The grumpiness at low rpm is something that I only really had an issue with when I first bought the bike and was getting used to it (coming from a rev happy DL650). An example would be trying to twist the throttle fairly hard in a higher gear with <2.5k rpm as the starting point. Then the engine would complain by occasionally slapping and shaking. Even with that in mind the big twin does give a good old pulse when accelerating under load (e.g. uphill) from low rpm and occasionaly sounds/feels like it is on the verge of complaining without actually complaining. Maybe there is a third issue, now that I think about it. 1st gear is very tall and this is a heavy bike. This is not an issue when I am out in the country or on the gravel/dirt roads, but for me makes the S10 feel a bit slow and heavy when I am dealing with the Stockholm city traffic during my weekly commuting. I tend to be much slower than other bikes when pulling away from the traffic lights (almost on par with the cars!). I am still working on improving this part of my relationship with the S10. I know the S10 can do it, I just need to find the right recipe..

Will be interesting to hear about your own findings with your new S10..
