I've been reading lots of posts for the past couple of months and finally got a 2019 ST about a week ago.

Having way too much fun but I've only put about 450 miles on it so far. Work is just interfering with my fun!

I'm looking forward to learning a lot more about them and getting to know everyone. I'm really glad I found this resource!

The only photos I have right now are too big to post so I'll add some when I get some "shrunken" ones.

Welcome from a couple hours south of you.
I've been itching to get back up your direction and riding 70 again. Been a while since I've been on those roads and the S10 is a perfect bike for exploring that area.

70, 36, 32, 162....all a LOT of fun and made the decision that much easier. Can't forget that we actually have dirt roads up here, too!

You need to stop thinking about coming up here and just do it (kind of what happened with the ST. I'm an engineer so after awhile of trying to "justify" it, that's what we do, I just decided I deserved it cause I've been good.)

Beautiful scenery as long as you can pretend there are trees and not just burn scar as far as the eye can see.

Congratulations on the new to you bike!
Sounds like you two get along just fine.

From the Netherlands,

Thanks and it's new to me with the previous owner buying it new in Aug 2021. The dealer did some changes before he bought it, so I'm hoping maybe some of the more knowledgeable gurus on here will be able to help me sort through what was done once I get pictures that will upload to the site (Galaxy S21 is taking pictures that are WAY too large). I got it with just over 10k miles on it and it's under warranty until Aug 2023 (which was a big plus for me when considering whether or not to buy it.)

It came with both the Yamaha top and side boxes as well as a full set of Givy Outback top and side boxes. Can anyone explain to me why Yamaha even bothers making boxes? I hadn't played with either brand before I bought this and there is, in my opinion, NO comparison between them. The Givy brackets all went back on and will stay there. The Yamaha boxes went into long term storage until I can figure out what I'm doing with them.

Thanks again and I have LOTS of questions about my ST as well as upgrades, better equipment, etc. It's looking a lot like a hole that I just throw money into, but I'm just not complaining. It's to the point where I'm trying to find an excuse to ride it the 50 feet to the mailbox. Still getting used to the weight though. It is heavy to me (and I'm actually not that small. Go figure.)

. . . . Can anyone explain to me why Yamaha even bothers making boxes? I hadn't played with either brand before I bought this and there is, in my opinion, NO comparison between them. . . .
That's a very common sentiment. If I was you, I'd gather up all the hardware, put it in one of the boxes, and put it the "for sale" section on here. 'Cuz, although you don't like them, I, and others do not have an issues with them. I don't use them enough to really hate them. If I did, I would likely switch them out. Furthermore, there are more than a few inquiries on here looking for OE boxes. Then you can take that money, and buy more of what you want for the bike. And adding to your bike is very subjective. Get what you want/need. Your wants/need may not be the same as other. If you are thinking about a certain add-on, see if somebody already has one. Then pick their brain to see if it's what you want.

Depending on what your riding history is, the Tenere can be a big girl. She does seem to loose about a hundred pound once she gets moving. She's my favorite bike ever.

I just bought a Gl1800 because it’s more comfortable for my wife. It has really made me appreciate my Super Tenere even more! The Super T is the best bike I have ever owned! You’re going to love it!

I just rode 162/ Mendocino Pass over to Bramscomb rd up the coast on my S10 last weekend. Dang fires sure opened up the view.

I'm on my second 1800. Great bikes for crossing the US and cold winter riding. My current is a 18 DCT, smoothest bike ever but the S10 let's me go where the Wing shouldn't.
