Hi people,

I reckon a lot of you more serious off-roaders would have some sort of GPS tracking device, saw this on eBay, anyone got one or use one? Seems pretty simple to install and use.

I think the idea is if you have someone at home with the phone app they can locate you and track you. I wasn't looking to it for navigation

Maybe the use of a SPOT tracker.......

Or a Garmin inReach "Mini" ..........

Ive had the SPOT and its saved our bacon.... I got rid of the SPOT and sometime in the future will be moving over to the inReach (Mini).

I just leave an Apple Air Tag in my vehicles and move them to the suitcases when traveling by airline. Won't help when in the middle of nowhere, but are quite effective for most places because there's always somebody nearby with an iPhone.

I don't think a tracker is what you're looking for if you want something as an emergency locating device if you're disabled out in the wilderness, especially if you're on a multi day trip. Unless you had an exact itinerary that you followed to the letter, and a person monitoring the GPS tracker had the same itinerary, they'd have no way of knowing if you'd stopped for a few hours because you decided to camp early, or if you'd stopped because you crashed. That sort of confusion could result in unnecessary EMS responses, or in not dispatching help right away when it was needed.

Tabasco's suggestions would be better choices, as they can provide your location plus you can use them to send a message to summon help. I believe the newest SPOT devices even allow two way communication.
