Yeah, some people absolutely love to plan.....so much so that it becomes bigger than the trip itself. I like to think about the trip a little bit, get my stuff out about two days before, pack the night before and head out. When I ride with people who do the GPS tracks it annoys me because they always seem to want to just follow the track and not explore other things.

In the end, just get input from people and use the stuff that's value added to you. We each have our own way of doing a trip, as long as it's fun and exciting for you that's all that really matters.

Yes our first Alaska trip planning was a pretty big issue that I somewhat worked on for years and I enjoyed the planning and learning a lot ! We only made reservations for two motels ahead of time and supposedly we would have had to pay for them if we got there or not but we didn’t have any significant issues and made it to those motels just fine. The first motel was near Glacier National Park where we all met up, the second motel was in Jasper Canada and I had learned that if we actually made the reservation early like in January we could get a pretty big discount, well the room was on about the third floor and no elevator but wow the room was the biggest room I ever stayed in, with four of us in that room there still would have been room for all our motorcycles ! We were gone 21 days and 10,000 miles, camped all but 5 nights and I couldn’t believe how well I slept with just an air mattress and a sleeping bag.
From Jasper on it was all new to me that’s another reason why I enjoyed it so much.

Well I believe I have settled on a date. It looks like I will be leaving Fort Worth on the morning of Saturday May 23rd 2020 and am planning to do roughly 400 mile days. i would like to be in Prudoe Bay around the 7th of June. What do you think of this timeline? It might change if I decide to do my IBA 1000. so if their are a few of us we could be each others witness.
If anyone else would like to go then by all means lets get together and make it happen. I also would like to know if anyone that has made the trip would be willing to share their gps routes, Just a thought. Now that the date is set it is really just the planning and getting the bike ready. I commute with it daily but it is not really set up for this kind of trip. LOL

Alaska is farther away than you think. From Virginia it took us 2 weeks to get to the border and we rode a couple of 700+ mile days to do it.

I took 3 weeks off work to do it and that's enough to get to Alaska, ride around for a week, then ship the bikes home. We would have needed 5 weeks to get back home. Shipping is expensive, but makes the trip possible if time is an issue.

I think we only used the heated gear once or twice, and we were in Alaska in July. It was very nice to have on a cold rainy day in the Yukon.

In 2002 I rode my Honda ST1100 from Fairbanks to Katy , Texas in 5 days. I had done my sightseeing on the way up there so it was mostly gas and go trip home. I have been up there on two wheels in June , July and late August . June had the best weather , July had rain and bugs, August had rain and cooler weather.
