Givi Trekker Outback Latching Issue Fix?

I have put just shy of 30k miles on my bike, and the panniers have been on it for almost all of it. The left one started to not engage one of the latches, and wore a bit of the latch away(pannier side latch tooth tip). There was too much slop up and down, and there wasn't enough engagement.

So... I'm testing out a work around: I added an aluminum shim to the bottom rest. Replacing the Allen bolt(6mm 1.0 taper head) with a longer bolt (45mm). I trimmed a 1"x 1/16" aluminum angle to the thickness of the mount pipe, and secured it with a nut on the backside. Blue locktite on the bolt, where it's in the pipe. Red locktite on the nut.

The red/green indicators never worked when new, now they work. It is a little more difficult to remove the panniers, but they don't move nearly as much. I'll update if there's any other news20211004_163527.jpg20211004_163445.jpg

Looks like a good fix. I agree, the red/green indicator doesn't ever go full green. Enough that I actually used a pair of ROK straps on a long trip just to make sure I didn't lose a box going down the highway. I may try your fix. Thanks !
