Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any experience with the givi top cases in offroad? Just got a light weight wl901 Monokey and some friends told me it won't be sturdy offroad.

Any thoughts?

Worse thing about those thermoformed cases is...Givi doesnt mention waterproof zippers. Its small enuff to not hang over the side too much & as long as you follow weight limits when packing...well...why not.

Which monokey cases are you looking at? I have had Givi ”plastic” cases and top box and I have always been very happy with them. On my SuperTen, I have Givi Dolomiti cases and top box and once again I am very happy with them. I wouldn’t know how to advise you regarding off-road use but I am sure many others on here have the experience and opinion that you need. For me, I’ll keep my Givi kit thanks :)

The one im looking at is the WL901 top pack. Its a plastic case, max weight 6kg (which is more than enough for me). The concern i have now that a friend who pointed out that the hard plastic rack thats used to lock the case at the rear of the bike becomes flimsy and not too dependable due to offroad riding.

Flimsy? Not a Givi/Kappa rack...now...the cheap copys...yeah. I have a friend who bought those....Hes been thru 2 of em....on pavement mostly. But it could have to do with the way they were mounted on his Versys.
If you're still concerned...get the Givi/Kappa alloy rack SRA2101/KRA2101 or an Altrider....SW Motech with Monokey hardware.
&..there is also an alloy plate to fit the Givi SR371 if you dont like the plastic plate... M8A I think

Excellent advice! The Givi/Kappa racks are just about bomb-proof.

I ran a Givi V46 top-case for awhile with the factory Yamaha side-cases.
I did a few trips where there was a bunch of off-pavement riding.
The Givi top-case will hold up far better than the factory Yamaha side-cases.
You will not have a problem with the top-case setup, but if you plan to do a bunch of "Off-pavement" riding with the factory Yamaha side-cases make sure you have some tie-down straps or ratchet-straps with you.................

Allloy. If you are going offroad. Don't put much weight in it. The metal is thin. They are flimys compared to the Bumot I have. I gotta admit. It got alot of abuse before it gave up. I got another Altrider on it now.
