I want to get a Yamaha top case added to my Tenere. Is there a way to get it keyed to the original ignition key? I already have side cases and don't really want to be using two different keys.

Mine was in a plastic bag with the manuals and under the seat, but it would be wherever the dealer decided to put it.
Yamaha does sell a lock tumbler that can be keyed to the ignition or a locksmith should be able to it. If you buy a new top box it will not come with a lock.

I took the bike to a locksmith to see if they could rekey a similar tumbler I would get for a new case. They were pretty dismissive though. Maybe if I showed up with a tumbler that's not already installed in a case they would be more helpful.

Thanks.

Any locksmith should be able to rekey a lock cylinder in next to no time at all. Cost will vary depending on the locksmith, but figure anywhere between $20-60.

You'll want to take it out first though, I'm sure most locksmiths don't want to risk damaging your case taking the cylinder out.

The lock fell out of my top box one day while riding, (make sure those little screws had blue locktite applied when put together) had to order a new lock, took the new lock to a locksmith and he was able to make my old keys work in the new lock, took him about 5 minutes and he did it for free, all he asked was that I spread some good words about his business.
