My legs and especially my feet get cold quick, couldn't imagine cold weather without my heated leggings and socks. Have to be careful with the heated socks though, need a thick sock underneath or they will literally leave burns on my feet.
Current setup is as follows:
Warm&Safe wireless dual troller (my favourite thing, I think Gerbing finally sells a similar product)
W&S Gen 4 jacket
Firstgear (rebranded W&S) leggings
Firstgear (rebranded W&S) socks
Gerbing T5 gloves, probably about the only thing I don't like
Standard layering setup is UnderArmor thermal longjohns and long sleeve compression shirt, then heated gear, and finally Klim Latitude pants and jacket. With being able to fine tune the dual troller on the fly, I can ride between 5-20c (40-70f) without ever having to get off the bike and change.
Below 5c things just get a touch too miserable when riding long days.
@regder - I think we might be twins:
I too wear an Under Armour base layer plus a long-sleeve thermal top and thin socks under the heated gear. I wear a KLIM Badlander jacket and KLIM Badlander or Latitude pants (depending on which bike I'm riding).
Also:
Firstgear (Warm & Safe) jacket
Firstgear (Warm & Safe) pants
Firstgear (Warm & Safe) socks
Gerbing G-3 gloves (because the Firstgear gloves were too small)
Firstgear (Warm & Safe) "Heat-Troller Version X-treme" dual zone controller
All-wired connections which requires only one cable to be plugged in when I get on the bike, and it uses the motorcycle's battery versus a wireless setup that uses rechargeable battery packs. The controller is "analog", not digital, and is therefore not affected by cell phones or any other RFI for that matter! I have configured the connections so that the gloves and socks are one zone and the jacket and pants are the other. I did this as my fingers and toes get cold long before the rest of me does. Also, heated gloves beat heated grips, which my Super Tenere does not have but my FJR does, every time, and I echo regder's caution about the socks. Lastly, I have ridden in temperatures as low as -12C (10F) without complaint.
@eemsreno: It sounds like your setup is one of the wireless versions. This might be part of the problem.
