Gen1 Sidestand ‘slider’ with lowered pegs?

First post, and apologies for not finding the answer first....definitely spent the time looking.....

I have a 2012 S10 and installed Knight Designs lowering pegs. Turns out the new pegs are lower than the little ball that sticks out from the sidestand and there‘s interference with my toe now.

I’ve read that the sidestand was revised for gen 2, and photos indicate that the newer sidestand doesn’t have the little ball on a post anymore.

Finally my question: what is that little ball for? Can I saw it off or bend it out of the way? Can I install the gen2 sidestand on a gen1?

All I can figure is that the little ball is there to protect the shifter if the bike falls down, but don’t know why it would be missing in the gen2 if that were the case....

any info to help the noob would be much appreciated! Many thanks. 0F13D88E-2A84-4263-88E5-83D4BA947787.jpeg

I've just bought a Gen 1 steel side stand and swapped it on to my Gen 2 bike. That extra bit does stick out and I can't see the purpose of it either. It gets in the way when trying to put the bike back into neutral whilst on the side stand parked in gear. I will probably cut it off, taking care not to be too close to the notch the spring sits in.

You are supposed to push on the ball to lower the side stand. Some other bikes have a similar rod/ball setup, some don't.
Some people use it, others find it ackward and just put there foot behind the footpeg and push down on the sidestand itself.

If you don't use it just bend it out of the way or cut it off.

Cut mine off in the first thousand miles. Never used it, and less things to get in the way.

I cut mine off a long time ago and covered the end with a rubber or plastic cap. It really doesn't work as it was intended.

Put a closed end wrench on it and precisely bend it down.

Mine got bent on a drop and i bent it back, you can do the opposite.

Thanks. What did you do to bend it back? Guess the stand has to come off and be clamped in a vise, but did you have to heat it with a torch or something?

Nope. Its mild steel.

Put the bike on the center stand.

Put the kickstand down.

Take a closed end and put the closed end around the bit you want to bend.

Use the leverage provided to bend it however you like. It can be done with one hand.

Bend it a couple more times and it will take care of things by breaking off.

Meant that the little blob ended bit of metal is pretty useless for anything and that bending it a few more times will break it off. I used a hacksaw 9 years ago myself.

I could never get it to deploy with the thingy. The Gen II is a much better design, just a little harder to add an extension to. My Gen I steel stand is 7/8" longer than before.

The Gen II has a nice triangular lever made into the stand, looks like it should work well.
