After checking the web site three times over a period of a couple weeks and my 2012 not showing up on the site I received the recall letter yesterday.
I have had no problems with the bike but I figured it would be on the list as it was a prepay to order bike with the last digits of the serial number being 000275.
I am contacting my dealer today.

Got my recall in the mail yesterday also. Even though I have had no problems, hate to have a known issue pop up down the road in a remote area. Calling the dealer today.

I picked up my bike from dealer today. Mechanic says it went fine, but took 3.5 hours vs the 2hrs Yamaha allow for the work. I had also had stripped the bodywork off before I dropped it off because of the crash bars I have installed.

I have the complete instructions for the recall. (17 pages) I will get them scanned tomorrow if anyone wants a copy before they decide if they want to tackle this at home.

Haven't ridden the bike yet, but I never had the issue before and hopefully no issues now.

That would be great! Just got the letter for my 2012. This is the third recall (after O-ring, headlight harness). My local dealer has been fantastic with these (Grand Prix in Santa Clara).

I just got my recall notice in the mail, don't think I'm going to be able to get this taken care of before winter starts, this can be done anytime anywhere right?

Yes, no time expiration, and any Yamaha dealer can do it.

Greetings jrussel,
Quick question, what crash bars do you have on your S10 and did you remove both the upper & lower side panels?
I was thinking of removing the lower side body panels before I dropped my S10 off for the recall work
as I have Alt Rider crash bars with a stud mounted ACD skid plate.

Alt rider crash bars.
I briefly saw the instructions last week and they indicated removal of both side panels was required. I figured it would be better for me to remove them. Didn't want them scratching the plastic or finding out later they wanted extra money to remove the crash bars because they couldn't get the bodywork off easily.

All the plastic will come off with the crash bars in place. Just takes a couple of times to figure out how to do it.
No need to remove crash bars or skid plate. If you are trucking the bike to a dealer like I did, just take it off at home so you don't need to worry about them scratching anything.

The recall instructions require the side panels,(upper+lower) tank, airbox all be removed.
Also the battery, and all relays/ecu etc on the right side come off. Then the plastic tray these relays/wiring is attached to is also removed from the bike.

You may be able to complete the work with some of this stuff in place, but the instructions in the recall has the removal of a ton of stuff before you get started with the rewiring.

17 pages of instructions so not plug and play like the headlight harness recall.

After everything is removed the 2 connections to the throttle bodies are unplugged and then cut from the harness. Ends are taped up and secured out of the way.

Then one of the ECU connections is removed and you need to remove a bunch of connections/pins from the plug.
Some new pins are installed/battery reconnected and then you go back into the diagnostic menu and check the parameters are with spec.
If everything is ok the next step is to install some more new pins and then back into diagnostic menu to check more parameters.
This is done in steps ,3 times total and if everything checks out then the new sub harness is laid in place and the final connections are made.

All the old connections you removed from the ECU plug are taped up and secured out of the way.

You may want to contact the dealer and find out.
But i can't see any rush from Yamaha after it took them what? six years to admit a problem is happening..

When i had my wiring harness replaced the service manager charged me $30.00 because he had to remove my Alt Rider bars.
The guy was a complete jerk from the get go.
Now i ride 100 miles to another dealer that has the best service manager i have met in many, many years.

Thanks for the thorough reply. I have taken off the lowers on both sides (to replace the battery and a general clean up when I bought the bike this past June) with the ALTs still in place but never the painted uppers.
Since my ‘13 S10 is fairly new to me I have yet to take it to a dealer as I have changed the oil/oil filter, final drive oil and battery myself. Bike only had 7800 miles on the clock when I picked it up and now shows a bit over 9K.
Presently waiting for the recall part to come in and then I guess I need to go to the dealership I chose and talk with the techs there to get a pulse about their
knowledge and abilities regarding S10s. If after I speak with them and I determine that removing all the panels is in my best interest, I assume that riding my S10 approximately 12 miles to the shop sans the upper & lowers would be okay, correct?
