How accurate is the LCD fuel gauge on a Gen 1? Is it known to give a false reading when just adding a couple of gallons?
Also, how come sometimes it shows full then after about 30 miles it loses a "square" or two on the LCD gauge on the right side?

I’ve done about 24k miles on my Gen 1 and think the gauge is fairly accurate once you understand how it manages a few full tanks.

From full up the first block goes out always between 65-75 miles, after this the others disappear quicker. Once the last one is flashing and the mile count begins, there’s at least 40 miles left, I know this from a few low fuel runs.

The example you use I have experienced too, however only with a top up and not a fill up.

On my 2017 ST yesterday my last bar started flashing, the fuel remaining said I had 22 miles left, I drove 21 miles then filled up the tank, it took 4.8 gal, so I guess I had 1.2 gal still in the tank, mine is not very accurate.

The fuel gauge is accurate in a relative way. When you hit reserve, Most Super Tens have ~1.5 gallons left. You can't say 1 bar equals xx amount of fuel. What you do get is a consistent number of miles per bar, once you establish that for your bike.

Remember, side stand will throw off the fuel gauge. It can be on reserve when you fire the bike up after side standing it, then go back to x bars after riding a bit.
