I know I read about this somewhere here but can't seem to find the thread. Is it confirmed that the Touratech GPS offset bracket will work with their mount for the 396 LMT-S? The info for the bracket only mentions the 660, 590, and Montana, but I seem to recall reading that it works for other Touratech mounts as well.

I think this might be what your talking about ?
No, there's an offset bracket from Touratech that works with the Touratech locking GPS mount (which normally obstructs the gauge panel of the bike). But, the catalog description for the offset bracket doesn't specifically mention the 396 mount. I had read somewhere that the bracket is compatible with the 396 mount, and am looking to confirm.

I'm almost positive the 395/590/595 mounts are the same. The only difference is the plastic cradle inside. Simply look at the back of your Touratech mount. If it looks like this then the offset bracket (shaded in gray) will fit.

Here is the 395 mount:

Here is the before and after on mine:

Along the line of GPS, here's a question...

My previous bike was prewired for TomTom, so I bought the correct end to attach to the leads from my mount and simply plugged it in. Does the Tenere have anything like this? If not, where ya'll pulling power from for the GPS. I just bought a new Garmin and need to hook it up. Thanks!

Well, my Touratech stuff arrived today, and the offset mount does NOT match up to the back of the 396 locking cradle. The width is correct, but the bolts for the cradle are too close to each other vertically. So I'm back to square one for finding an offset.

The problem is that the cradle apparently obscures the upper edge of the instrument panel when using the cradle's own mounting hardware.

There is not a dedicated circuit for GPS on the ST, but you do have two options:

1) There is a dedicated plug tucked in the lower right fairing, behind the stock tool kit, for the factory fog light option. Most owners here use it to help power an outboard fuse block, as it it has 12v switched power, along with 12v constant and ground, in order to control switched accessories. The Eastern Beaver PC8 is a popular choice if you plan on adding a lot of accessories like lights and heated gear along with the GPS, and they offer prewired kits specific to the Tenere that make them easy to install. They also offer a 3 fuse block for less extensive needs.

2) You also have the option of wiring straight to the battery, if you don't want the GPS turning on and off with the bike. This would be the simplest method, but could lead to a dead battery if the GPS is left on for extended periods or if the cradle draws current even when the unit is removed (some Garmin cradles have been known to do this).

What am I looking for here? Do you have a picture or two please?

This thread has a good video about installing the EB 3 fuse block on an ES, including the connection location on the bike.

A related question (since my bike is currently still in storage I can't just go check this myself): what is the actual diameter of the accessory-mount crossbar that comes stock on the '14-up bikes? is it 12mm or 13mm? I found a horribly expensive source for a machined aluminum offset crossbar mount that matches the AMPS bolt pattern on the 396 and looks like it will offset upwards about half an inch or so BUT it's from Australia, and before I drop $170 on it plus international shipping  I want to be ENTIRELY certain that I'm ordering the correct unit. The mount I found is from a place called motogps https://motogps.com.au/r12gs-1-12mm-support-bar-gps-mount/

I have been completely unable to find anything like this here in the states so far, though I will continue to search a while longer before spending that kind of cash, but at least this is an option.

ETA: After more digging, I found this item via the ADVRider forums: MotoPump GPS Mount https://www.motopumps.com/shop/gps-mount made in the USA, milled out of Delrin. I have an email in to them to see if their clamp will support the weight of the Touratech locking cradle.

I bought a RAM mount for the crossbar, it came with a few different sized adaptors, but I found it very unsatisfactory as it shook a lot making it difficult to see and no matter how tight I clamped it to the crossbar, it still swivelled around. I mounted my Garmin to the left hand mirror mount. Perfect for me now.

I can't remember where I got it but the clamp mount I use on the accessory bar is 50mm wide and is solid doesn't move.

Here are a couple of pics of the whole conglomeration, ready to be mounted. I will (finally) be pulling the bike from storage in the next week or so, and will find out then if this is going to work.

So this is: a Garmin 396, in a Touratech locking cradle which by design has to also include the core of the Garmin cradle to provide power, with the Motopump bar clamp on the back and a cheap Amazon shade strapped to it. The shade originally had thin elastic bands, so I had to cut them off and use 4 12" velcro straps to create a secure attachment system that would fit around the Touratech gear.
