Front mudguard removal

I have a 2017 Gen2, have ordered the Pyramid plastics fenda benda extension piece and in the instructions it mentions removing the mudguard.
Is it necessary to fit the extender?
If so, where can I find info on removing mudguard, or is it obviously easy?

I installed the Pyramid Extenda Fenda last year on my ‘13. It works great so far (about 4K miles since it was installed).
IMHO it is best to remove the fender for
the installation. Do not use the supplied double edge adhesive strips
as they are useless. I used an ABS specific cement to attach the Extenda Fenda. Using screws or bolts is also not suggested as I have
seen a lot of stress cracks happen from the holes where the screw/bolt
secures the Extenda Fenda to the fender.
I am not at home right now but I believe this is the ABS cement I used:
I will confirm which one I actually used when I back home tonight.
Also if you are running a bash plate make sure the Extenda Fenda
clears it throughout the forks turning radius.

So the mudguard is made of ABS?
As I'm a plumber I do have solvent cement in my armoury anyway.
I would agree with you of it is indeed made of ABS

When I took off the OEM painted (white) fender from my ‘13 there was
a stamp on the inside indicating it was ABS plastic. Not sure if that is the case with the other years where the fender is not painted but just a matte black finish.

Nice clean install, looking good!
You may want to put a few A-clamps on the spots overnight where the Extenda Fenda meets the OEM fender so the cement/glue
can really make a strong bond.

Just keep an eye on that set-up. When the fork compresses under braking or when going over a bump, pot-hole, ruts, etc., etc.,
the end of the Extenda may catch on the front of your GIVI skid-plate as it is quite low.

Sooooo, if it's glued on, how do ya remove it should it need to be replaced due damage or anything like that?? I like the idea of the protection but still mulling over the extender due to the fender damage threads etc

I trimmed mine after checking.

Good shot, it's the compressed clearances that are the problem. The fender damage threads aren't because of the extender, it's the clearance, or the lack there of, with the skid pan that breaks things all up. Read once, years ago now, of an extender catching on a pan, not breaking, and essentially locking the steering at speed. Not the best kind of scenario.
