Some of this is also posted in the "Wanted" sub-forum.

Hi everyone! This might also count as my introduction. New (to me) S10 owner. I have a 2017 CBX with RR kit on it, and wanted/needed something to 2-up adventure on. After looking at a bunch of options, I read through the thread by @eemsreno about his 200,000 miles on a S10 and decided to try and find one local. Picked one up that I found on ADVRider a few months ago with ~30,000. Been an absolute blast owning it for the short time I've had her. As a former professional auto-mechanic, I try to do all of my own maintenance, and I don't see the S10 as any different.

I had a super slight pulsation in the front brake, so I bought new rotors/pads (all OEM). Took off the old rotors, and only half a bolt came out of one of the holes on the left of the hub. Had a machine shop drill out the bottom of the bolt and re-tap the hole to an M6 (stock thread). Tried putting the stock bolt in, which I didn't like the way it felt, and then a longer bolt (M6 x 30 x 1.0) with a thin head that clears the fork. Currently torqued to only 15NM, as it feels like it wants to spin free after that.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm considering having the machine shop drill and tap it to an M8, as I'm 90% positive that would still clear the hole in the rotor, but I don't know if there is enough aluminum in the hub to allow it. So now, I find my self shopping for either a hub assembly, or a whole new front wheel. I'm in Raleigh, NC.

Also a question - doe anyone know if the hub listed on Partzilla or Babbits (or the like) is a hub assembly, or just the hub? (p/n 23P-25111-00-00)

Hi med.jeeves, welcome aboard. If you need any help with the forum, please reach out to myself and/or Checkswrecks.

I would suggest updating your profile with a location as well (it can be general, don't need your street address!); there are differences between bikes depending on where in the world they are, so it will help with context.

For ST maintenance, I would suggest reaching out to TABSACO here on the forum. Oldrider would also be another member who could help with your part number question.

You know - I've used helicoils to repair spark plug sockets several times and had not honestly thought about using one here. Huh. Thanks! Now off to see if I have any M6 helicoils in my home shop somewhere.

What @scott123007 said. Helicoil in aluminum is a standard OEM method on areas that get disassembled/assembled a lot. Perfect repair for this. I would typically not be surprised if it came out with the bolt the next time it was removed if loctite is used though. But you don't change your rotors very often.

The hub is usually just the bare hub, not an assembly, unless otherwise stated. If you look at the parts diagram, it does not show an assembly, only lists the hub as one item.

There is a used one on ebay for about half of new, with bearings and rotor bolts. LINK

I did end up having a M6 helicoil and tap in my home shop, so thats done. Let it sit last night with some red 271 before putting the rotor back on and TQing everything down. Just went for a ride, and the brakes are smooth. The new rubber helped, too.

Thanks again for the suggestion @scott123007 and @EricV. I feel like every Ford 5.4 Triton out there has a helicoil in one of the spark plug, and I honestly just hadn't though of doing the same here.
