. . . . Sometimes I go back and read a post I made when someone 'likes' it well after I posted it, to remind me what it was about. Then I may see some grammar or spelling errors and edit to correct them, but rarely do I make major changes.
Yup, I go back and see what kind of s**t I was spouting. Then, when I look at it, I wonder how I left out certain words, and misspelled the ones I didn't forget.

I think the gun thread kicked off the latest string of delete festing. Someone couldn't read the rules for the thread and follow them, then cried about it when their post was deleted. Then declared they were leaving and started deleting all their content.
Is that what it was?

I do wish more people used the "Ignore option" instead of getting all riled up.
For anyone that may not know what it is: If someone pisses you off consistently, just click on their Avatar and at the bottom there is an "Ignore" button. You won't see any more of their posts.

It's GLORIOUS for tuning out the Cliff Clavin types :)

Locking in all my grammitical, spelling and auto-correct errors is little bit scarier.

DOH!
Maybe it will teach us to re-read... again, before hitting 'post reply'. :D

@jeckyll - Ignore has it's ups and downs. I use the new posts feature a lot to see what's going on. If you ignore someone, you're still seeing the mess of replies to what ever they posted. And you can't really respond to that thread if you can't read the pot stirrers post, not knowing what started the mess.

The problem is: I re-read it. And it seems fine. Then my wife will read something and go "you spelled some stuff wrong, you want me to tell you what it is?' ;)

I started reading this and was thinking "yeah, that's what I do, ignore who I don't like". Then, I read the rest of it. . . .

I always do. . . . several times. . . . and still miss my screwups.

Of course we each have to decide which options are best. I don't feel like I need to correct every error or dumb thing that these folks may post. And it's really easy to click to show the content.

And over all, I think that if people read something from an unknown source on the internet and the immediately put it into practice, those folks can't be helped. We see too much of it today, where critical thinking isn't applied.

These days, I try to help folks where I can, learn something new when I can and not get brought down by the number of poorly educated folks who think their opinions are the same as facts :)

Valid points. I have the failing in that I believe people can learn, even those that show an inability to process information correctly. Too many years teaching and raised by teachers, I suppose, is partly at fault.

I taught for a while (adults only), and appreciate good instruction. Sadly, it's rare that people change their minds 'online' from what I've seen, at least, the types of individuals I'm talking about.

I wish you luck and applaud your effort!

Learning to ask the right question is a difficult thing for some. It's painful to see so often someone jump in with a question that hasn't thought it through yet.

Five Whys is a good starting point.

Dang, I'm feeling a little thrown under the bus at the moment.
The comment wasn't tossed at anyone in particular. Sometimes someone posts "How do I do xxxx?" and my first thought it simply Why? Not questioning their desire or reasons they want that, but trying to understand the root cause for them wanting it. To better understand if what they are asking to do is really what will solve the root cause. Seeing the tree instead of the forrest kind of thing.

I take a lot of heat for trying to get people to really say what their goals are or why they want something. Call me jaded or just an ass, but most people don't know what they want. And until you get to the root cause, you can't identify what they are really attempting to do.

I believe most people do know what they want. It's all about enjoying the bike they have and using it for whatever purpose suits their need for fun. What's fun for one rider might be miserable for someone else. It's all about dialing it in for your riding condition or need. Most of the questions on this forum come across well thought out and easy to understand. It's almost always the members answering them that have a smart ass comment or belittling statement that leaves the OP not wanting to ask an opinion or tech question.

This forum is very mild and has some really good info. There are some members, such as myself, with strong opinions and weird sense of humor. Other members are so uptight that they freak out over even an obvious joke, or make it their mission to belittle others. I find it sad that it has come to freezing posts just because of a few members have decided to delete their posts and leave the forum.

The bottom line is to try to get along without the cowardly electronic aggression hiding behind a keyboard. The one strange thing that makes this forum different than others is the PM is hit and miss on trying to work things out with members. Most all other forums I have been able to work out differences via PM and actually have met long time riding buddies. The Super Tenere/Adventure Rider forums not so much. Even some very polite PM's have been met with aggression and outrageous thug mentality.

Trying to decide on a bike can be tough. I think you are doing it right by testing out a lot of them. I'm sure you will find what your looking for!!
