Except the 14 is a non ES and the poster has a ES. Oil volumes and some of the tools needed are different between the two.

You will need a spring compressor, damper rod holder, and a socket to fit the top cap (rather large on the ES).

A few ES lessons learned. I loosen and remove the end caps after totally removing the forks. The socket will not sit square while in the triple tree. I use a wood clamp to hold the forks during removal and torquing the top caps. For the ES the right fork damps on compression, the left on rebound. I put a hole and diverter on the rod holder to control the oil from squirting all over during exercising to remove air (go slow). I use a threaded lamp rod and connector. (10mm 1.0 pitch I believe). A 1-3/4" socket is loose but gets the job done. 44mm is the size if you can find it. I use turnbuckles instead of ratchet strap for a predictable release. Home made compressor can not slip off.

Spec fill Quantities are 505 ccs left and 493 ccs right, but there is always some residual, and I've always gotten by with a single Quart/Liter Bottle. With the forks compressed the level is filled to 148mm. I use OEM or KYB 01M oil.

I made a spring compressor and fork oil tool which worked very well. Your idea of the lamp rod to connect damper rod is excellent! For the fork cap, I used adjustable wrench and 14mm bicycle wrench.
