Hi guys,
the fork chrome section on the tenere as you know has the black lower section that the wheel spindal goes through and the calipers fit to, on yamaha webb site if you need the chrome lower legs they come with those black lower sections attached £360 each side,
but on google and ebay its showing you can buy the chrome section on its own without the lower black section,, does anybody know if that lower section can be removed from the lower part of the chrome leg as it looks like it doesn,t anybody done this

Hi Rob,

I've had a look and can't see a way of removing it, also all of the exploded diagrams I can see show it attached and the part number is as you say for the complete stantion.

Cheers,
Ade

i know i can,t see how you would get it off and part number is showing it with the black foot attached, but loads of sites showing a chrome leg on its own.
i know that happens but its strange

Ive been down this road several times.... Yes, technically they do and can come apart. The problem is the threads on the chrome tube are very fine, and there is a set screw in the side of the black lower portion that they then 'punch' so it wont come out. Even if you get the set screw out (pain in the tail) the set screw has 'damaged' the fine threads of the steel chrome leg. Unscrewing the chrome leg out of the lower is virtually impossible. If you do get it out then the aluminum lower threads are typically damaged beyond wanting to reinstall a new upper chrome leg (for safety). This whole process is a PAIN !

So they "can" come apart but more than likely after you screw around for hours you will have to end up with the chrome leg and the black lower because the threads are damaged. And the bottom line is **SAFETY** of these parts.

The treads are the whole way down in that bore. The set screw is basically in the middle of the threaded area.

Hi Tenman,

i,m not my friend has a tenere that the chrome on both legs are that bad the fork seals will not work they are bad never seen forks like it, they have tried cleaning them up but nothing working, i,ve not gone into can you rechrome can you this can you that, the disgusion over the phone with me was purely about new chrome stantions and removing the lower foot part.
so i remember a few years back when my lowers were bad but hidden behind the carbon fork guards so i couldn,t see how bad they were.

luckily i caught mine and they cleaned up, we were talking this week and he said the forks were going to be done new lowers, i said wow there £360 each side as they come with the feet, he gave me link with just the chrome leg for about £200 each and because i looked into this awhile back i said i,m sure you can,t get those feet off.

thats why i asked here as he needs the forks sorted

Watch this vid from the 10 minute mark.
Heat. grease and the end mill tip will help save the threads.
