In the drive way tail gate of my truck as a work bench ..... wow ,I'm wore plum out now .... but it started . will need to adjust the idle and air screw . but not today . procyle needle comes with a doodad that holds the needle it the proper orientation . more later.

good to know DD is a fan of the DR....
I got on my Tenere Sunday and it felt so heavy coming off the side stand ..... that's the danger of the DR , its a pig but not a big pig in comparison.

Talking about the bush pig being so much lighter than the Super T. I don't feel like I am riding faster on the DR but as long as I am on the tiny back roads around here I seem to be covering ground a lot faster on the DR than I ever have on the Super T. Going from A to B in a much shorter time. I really don't ride that fast or hard most of the time but I must hold a faster speed on the DR. Out on the big roads there is not much difference.

so I bought a set of tires for the DR . kenda big blocks ; not ready to install but as its hard to find tires as a set I thought I would give them a try .
my next purchase has to be a better seat .so next month I will buy a Procycle seat and give them a try. I'm not ready to take off the OEM tires just yet ,but having a set on hand would be good when im ready with not hunting and waiting. 228.00 plus tax

What the hey , the front tire showed up at my door yesterday. Got here quick. But and always a but , not with the rear. Said 2 was in stock. Not upset about it, in fact kinda expected it to be this way. No worries the rear should be here in about 10 days. I also need a new set of tires for my tenere will buying those very soon also .C2026BC1-C557-4F17-8AB8-4CB479FC338A.jpeg

cyclemike4 , I will let you know when but may be awhile as I would like to burn down the stock tires just a little . the front cost 100.00 the rear 120.00 . just looking at it , it seems too be a good tread pattern , more off road bias than stock . probably after the 600 mile dealer thing . after one and a half months of ownership I have 130 miles on her. I'm so busy I basically just ride it Sunday mornings. I rode my Tenere twice this week and maybe tomorrow . so its getting some love.

A mate has just replaced 3 gear cogs at 47000kms apparently common , 3rd doing most of the off road yakka (?) and 5th droned out on the open road.
Found this :
  • 3rd gear issues- Some DR's can have a pronounced whine in 3rd gear which can be caused by the hardening wearing off or a badly cut gear. Not catastrophic but annoying anyway.
3rd gear has also been known to disintegrate in a small number of cases. Unfortunately whine or lack of is no indication either way something is going to happen. So far there have only been 30 or so documented cases as at 17th Feb 2012 in the US/OZ/NZ out of the many thousands of DR's running around out there and some racking up very high mileages with no problems at all.Riding conditions may play a part as the Australian bikes affected seem to be at about 20-30,000km whereas the New Zealand/US bikes were between 40-60,000km.Suzuki changed the part number for 3rd gear in 2006 and 2008 and so far the years represented in the failure list are from 1999 to 2009.The 3rd gear cog is under load in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears and is the hardest working of the cogs.If you are going to have the cases apart for any reason, for peace of mind it would pay to replace both the drive and driven 3rd gear cogs.
Issues that affect the 98 and part of the 99 DR650SE year models:

The 3rd gear part # changed, but the gear didn't. The incidence of failures continues, its random and can happen at any distance, and its not always 3rd that fails. The gearbox is undersize for a 650 single and too close to its FoS. The Nova wide ratio options are one solution, hopefully, that I helped develop. That story is here; https://drriders.com/new-wide-ratio-gearbox-t18311.html
