I am also going to take my stock header off, cut the cat section open, gut it and weld it back up. I have a TIG machine and some skills (not a ton of skills, but some. Enough to weld it back together pretty enough to be under the bike where no one can see it :p

Swap out the stock headers for Arrow headers and the top end really wakes up.
Would you do a slip on or the header first? If you were only doing one. I was thinking about gutting the cat out of the stock header, which should do a lot towards what the header would do.

….But really, a bike like this, it's not supposed to be a rocket ship above 80 lol. Aren't you supposed to stay under 90 with bags or something?

Once again, purely my opinion, that's not the Tenere's forte'. It can do it, but that's not the bike's happy place. Those speeds are where the FJR rules. I don't spend much time over 80mph, but I've seen posts that oil consumption goes up at those speeds. And, I KNOW that my ol' KLR guzzled oil hauling my weight above 75mph. And yes, I've seen stickers inside of saddle bags advising to keep speed below 85ish with the bags attached. Once again, the FJR is an I.C.B.M. (intercontinental ballistic motorcycle). I never felt a difference between bags and no bags; that bike is ALWAYS stable.

Seems like most replacement seats and mods would move the rider back and away from tank in a similar fashion to the Sargent, no?
No, the Seat Concepts doesn't sit you back in a pocket like the Sargent or Laam (both of which I tried). It's flat with lots of cushion everywhere and you can sit forward or back as you like.

From my experience most of the power gains comes from the catless header. I had an Akra and Arrow header on my Gen I (flashed with a PCV) and when I changed back to the stock muffler for the reg inspection (I'm in Japan), the power didn't drop off and the bike actually ran better at low RPMs. But after I put the stock header back on the bike to sell it, the power really dropped off at highway speeds. On my Gen II I'll probably only change the header.

Well the cost of a slip on of header would cover having the 220 line put in for my welder and then I can do it myself and be able to get back to other projects lol

I think I will go the gutted stock header route for now. I would imagine that in itself will deepen the tone even with the stock muffler.

I don't like my Sargent seat, I am trading it with a guy here for his stock seat. I might eventually have Seat Concepts do their thing with that.

I will see what I think...good news is I have 30 days to return if I don't like it.
I have a 2017 S10 and was thinking about getting the Sargent seat. Two questions for you...1. Did you like it and was it comfortable. 2. Any chance you got the pillion as well and if so how did the pillion like it. Thanks.

I like the seat very much. roughly 5k on the bike in the first year, including 2 trips of 1,500-2,000 miles each. Seat is very comfortable. I wish it were more "grippy", but other than that, thumbs up. I did get the pillion but honestly haven't had a passenger on it yet:). I definitely recommend the seat for the Tenere though.

Got what I think is a good deal on a leftover new 2017 and I couldn't be happier. Worked the Yamaha heated grips into the deal, as well. Had never ridden a Tenere before, and I have to say that all of the Moto Magazine types who say it isn't powerful enough are nuts...at least to this average rider. I think it handles well, doesn't feel heavy (even in slow speed maneuvers), has more than sufficient power, is super smooth and stable, etc. Already have a Sargent seat and Madstad windshield on order, which ought to make it about perfect for me. Eventually I'll get crash bars and a skid plate, but it'll be a 98% road bike for me.

Anyway, this site helped a lot in my research, and I appreciate it! View attachment 49707View attachment 49708
Congrats
