Hello all,
Two quick questions that maybe someone might know the answers to.

1) An opened since 2018 Yamaha final drive fluid, still good?

2) Do you think the Yamaha final drive "specifically made for FJRs and VMax" is okay to use on the Super T? There are no fluid type markings on the jug, just that it is good for those two bikes. No viscosity listed like regular oil is.

Thank you for looking.
Dave

1) Yes with no problem, as it is about miles not age for rear drive fluid that sees no combustion gasses.

2) Absolutely fine. There are numerous oil threads around here regarding fluids, but the bottom line is that the design is common to all three bikes.

I used to change mine at 5k engine oil change time. It looked brand new. That was a waste of money. I change it every 15k now and it looks like it still fine. I use valvoline synthetic

It's fine. Gear oil is not hygroscopic like brake fluid. IOW, it doesn't absorb moisture from the air. If you have it, use it. Then change to Valvoline Synpower 75w-90 gear oil. It's less expensive by far and the final drive runs cooler as well. I found that when I switched to the Valvoline, after a few changes at 5k interval it started coming out clean, (it was black for the first, then dark, then not so dark, etc.), so like Tenman, moved to a longer interval.
