Hi All-- an odd observation that's making me feel nervous-- when I'm pushing my bike around a smooth garage, it shudders-- almost like it's on extreme knobbies, or the notchy feeling when you manually turn a shaft inside an electric motor. I'm on street tires, and don't feel anything unusual when I rotate either the front or rear tire when it's up on the center stand.

Possibly related details: The bike's over 100k, almost exclusively street ridden, aggressively. I just changed both oil and final drive fluid. Shifting has been getting clunky, clutch needs bled. In the last ride it seemed to stop fully engaging. the shuddering described above has been going on for a few months but appears to be getting worse.

Any thoughts anyone has would be very much appreciated!

Thanks, ST community!

Because it is getting worse something is wrong. Do not ignore.... I suspect a bearing is the problem. The thing to remember it could be more than one that is the problem. I would have your wheel bearings and head bearing checked as well as the swing arm bearing. At a 100k it would be wise.

My bike has 40k and I have had to replace the steering head bearing and a rear wheel bearing. :)

While our bikes have a reputation for lasting they still need a little love every now and then.

I’ve felt that even with mildly scalloped tire wear. Tires would be my bet.
Especially the way these things can cup the front tyre. One time I checked the front (Anakee adventure) and it looked OK but when I run my hand over it I couldn’t believe how badly misshapen it was

:) Very thankful for so many people wrapping their heads around this, especially within one day of posting!! Will help me get on the summer road sooner.... Will lube that shifter-- have the Honda Moly-- and will rub my hand over the tires, especially the front! I'm confident the rotors are fine. If any of those help, great, otherwise will have the shop check bearings.

I was wondering whether it might be u-joints, but doesn't seem to have other symptoms that might indicate that.....

My guess might be to check...............

1) slave cylinder / master clutch cylinder (good chance the aluminum piston at the top as worn, and gone down to the slave cylinder and has started to damage it.... Ive seen this a few times)
2) #24 - #25 - #26. (#25 is the major wear)
3) front floating disc get 'stuck' over that many miles and don't "float" any longer... Just spin the disc and clean the connectors between the hat and disc.
4) check pads for funky wear
5) possibly the caliper pistons are so filthy they cant retract and dragging the pads
6) double check the rear non-drive side wheel bearing... If it's about to blow up, it can feel like it has chatter in it..... seen that a bunch of times.... (if you have not changed this, change it)

Just a few ideas.......

In the clutch basket. IMOP # 25 should be changed every 40-50K minimum. I use lots of clutch control on the BDR’s I ride, and I’m particular, I change these three out every 25K or so.
If 25 is worn excessive, it can drag the clutch and wear the plates out faster. Eye ball that master & slave as well. You don’t want that slave to fail on a trip. Ask my buddy. lol.
