Installed a new higher end HID light kit (head lights) from The Retrofit Source. The new light kit and light output has been great. When I got home from South Dakota I had noticed I had one light out. No big deal I started poking around and found this -
OK, no biggie, I will call them and see what they say.............. It was a bit difficult to get someone on the phone but after I did, it was totally awesome ! The guy was super great and nice. I told him what I found, he we spoke for about 2 minutes and he said we will send you out all the parts you need to fix it. I was on the phone for less that five minutes (quick and easy). I received the box today and they actually included a few more parts that I might / or might not need to get me going again.

It was SO EASY to work with these guys. Just wanted to pass on "good news" to a company that stands behind there product 110%.... They are doing it the right way ! If your interested in HID or even LED I would suggest you take a look. If you ever have an issue you won't have anything to worry about.

It does appear that I must have gotten a bit of water down in this plug during a massive rain storm. I guessing this was the cause and I will prevent this in the future with a little dielectric grease on the seal.

Agree, The Retrofit Source has great customer service and are very responsive to emails. A shout out to Elliott at TRS, who was a great help.

Tabasco, I am on the fence between HID and LED because both are highly recommended on this forum. I like LED because of the simplicity of install and wiring, but I am more concerned about performance and reliability. I read everything I could about our options for headlight upgrades, and I still have a few questions.

1. You previously had 35W HIDs by DDM. Why did you replace them?
2. What kit did you get from TRS?
3. How does the performance of the TRS kit compare to the DDM?
4. Did you use a relay to power the ballasts?
5. How does the performance of HID compare to LED bulbs?

1. You previously had 35W HIDs by DDM. Why did you replace them?

(over approximately 9-10 years they began to get more dim)

2. What kit did you get from TRS?

(Fukahara ? I’ll have to go look, 35W)

3. How does the performance of the TRS kit compare to the DDM?

( similar, but the old ones became dim and the new ones were new and fresh, so at that moment the new ones were extremely bright)

4. Did you use a relay to power the ballasts?

(yes- I run relays on almost all my gear. I’ve been doing after market stuff’ for over 40 years and I’ve seen many things to learn from)

5. How does the performance of HID compare to LED bulbs?

(this topic could take 10-15 pages of technical info. This is also very personal and what people “believe” by reading PR advertising on the internet.
So- for this bike (only) there are pro-con on both systems. I feel that LED will someday be the best light source. The aftermarket LED do a pretty good job overall. But at the end of the day I went with a “higher quality” HID system. I’ve been using HId for almost 25 years and they all have worked really well. The worst set has been the cheap set, but they never failed.
LED is a very excellent light source. I don’t think that the after market systems are up to par yet as far a ‘size-instal size-heat-shadowing-price’.
As the world normally does- everything will continue to evolve and someone will come out with an LED that checks all the boxes, then 50 companies will copy this and everyone will have the best lights for $50. We are not there yet.
