I found Marketplace a great place to buy and sell. I no longer follow facebook. Politics have run rampant. Waiting patiently for others to place items for sale here.
Hoping marketplace can be replaced!

I don't have a Facebook because of politics but my wife lets me look at hers. I do like the market place and look quite often. You just have to ignore it. One of my best buddies and great riding partner is on this forum . We are pretty much opposite on politics and sometimes argue. But we have never let it get between us.

Thanks, I have been at odds with this. I agree!
Still, if this could be as good as FB could bypass all the BS, I would stop considering FB Marketplace all together.lol

Exactly the same here. I've never been concerned with a person's politics or religion. But, imho, todays politics are polarizing to the point of revealing a person's true feelings, or mindset. I think that's why it's causing so many problems. People are realizing that they either one side of the aisle or the other, and can not go along with the opposite; no middle ground. I'm guilty of it myself. That's why I've adopted the ol' don't ask. . . . don't tell. . . . in reference to everything.

I would love to actually meet most of the people on this forum. But, if/when it happens. . . . please don't bring up politics. It makes religion seem like a piece of cake.

Watch The Social Dilemma on Netflix. It is very revealing on how Facebook works. Facebook is deliberately putting people at odds with each other just so they keep coming back and Facebook can then sell more advertising to make more money.

Never had Facebook. Always felt I was missing out not knowing what people were having for dinner, and not knowing what the weather was doing.

@Rookst9 - Welcome to the forum. Please take a moment to put your location in your profile. It adds context to your posts and helps others give better responses. Especially if you're selling things, people will know if they are in the same area or not before responding.

The benefit of FB marketplace is that it's focused on your location. I don't do FB. Wife does. FB Marketplace is very good in some areas, and horribly filled with scammers and spammers in other areas. Just like CL, it started out good, then gets filled up with useless trash and scammers. Some areas are still good on both. Other areas have regional sales sites that can be useful.

The Marketplace here has the advantage of being focused on Super Tenere stuff or riding gear. Not so helpful if you need to sell an oven. ;)

Facebook and Craigslist are not the best platforms for buying/selling.

I agree with you, Chris, but what's the alternative that provides a regionally based venue for selling and buying? Ebay is fine, but heavily biased towards the buyer. I think that's great as long as I'm the buyer, but I've been a little hesitant to sell anything there because of their policies, especially since I only occasionally need an avenue for selling something.

Says the guy that just yesterday sent me a political video link from Facebook. LOL
I don't agree that we sometimes argue. I just state the facts and you refuse to accept/believe them. LOL

Back on topic. Facebook is fine for me for, family/friend photos and mutual interest groups similar to this forum (Super Tenere USA, Mexico, Thailand, PNW, etc.). If a friend starts posting political (either side) I just unfollow them which removes their posts from my feed. I remain FB friends and can still message them and selectively see their posts.

However Facebook Marketplace I do not use or like. I don't want some stranger to now become my Facebook friend by responding and have the ability to message me just because of a For Sale posting. I use Craigslist and manage ads with their anonymous email messaging system and use common sense to avoid the scams and pfishing attempts. Also since they adopted the $5 per listing fee it has become a much better environment. Much fewer listings but that's due to the scam ads and non serious sellers now gone.

That shows how long it's been since I've sold something on Craigslist; I had no idea they had a posting fee now. That probably does make it a little less of a scam factory.

I've been using OfferUp (have my quad listed there, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist). It is affiliated with Facebook, since I can share my postings from OfferUp directly, but so far I'm at least getting responses to my ad.

For vehicles, I still prefer the Trader sites, but I've been using those since they were a print publication...

The $5 fee on CL is just for vehicles, as I recall. The Trailer section is still FULL of scammers in my area. Who's dumb enough to believe a 6x10 fully enclosed Wells Fargo trailer in like new condition is selling for $800?? Lord only knows what all the scammers are trying to get? email addresses? The world at large really needs to crack down on scammers.

I tried Let Go on the phone for a while. Not a lot of quality responses to things I had for sale, but I did find a few gems to buy. In the end I dropped it because of the low response rate.

For vehicles I still use Cycle/Auto/Truck Trader, CarGurus for autos and CL. There is a BuySellTrade site locally, but they only allow 3 ads unless you pay a monthly fee, and I don't sell enough for that to cost out. Ebay works ok for me for selling and buying and I've done enough to have a good rating as a seller and am set up for it well. It's sometimes just a pain to do everything to get it completely ready to ship before you put it on ebay. And more often than I'd like, it's just not worth it to see on ebay because the shipping costs too much.

Cheap USPS is a thing of the past, and they lose too much these days so they can pad their profits by selling the "lost" items. They made $11 Million last year selling undeliverable items. And only had a 3% rate of sending things to the original shipper or recipient once it was "lost". Too often I've had packages take weeks to get from FL to MS or go far out of the way for a short distance item. MS to MN, then back to TN? WTF? The USPS needs a huge fire lit under it and the current head booted into jail for screwing up what worked better before he came on board as an appointee. Sorry for the rant.

Problem with FB is that otherwise normal people, that you could carry on a great discussion with, too often kick into keyboard extreme warrior mode - this proves true whether it be religion, politics, mask, vaccines, etc etc etc - There have been times that I've considered blacklisting friends I actually KIRL that I have a lot of history with....because I've learned that they are not as reasonable as usual when behind that keyboard lol - Sooooooooo tempted to uninstall it but it also keeps me in touch with groups like this and family and close friends and and and - such a double edged sword, especially when most of us are locked down so much :/

I'm actually a relatively easy person to get along with. . . . I just have a low tolerance for stupidity. But, yeah, there are quite a few on here that I maybe related to.

Let me rephrase why I don't have FB. It's because I would just piss half the people off with my politics.
