Fuel Whore
In April of 2018 I purchased a new leftover 2017 Desert Sandstone S10. Love the color with the gold and bronze-ish accents. In my personal opinion there was just to much black. Now, i like black bikes, when they're all black. The matte grey and black, very nice. The early model blue and silver, awesome. And I'll single out Twinriders silver and blue bike, tops my all time favorite color combination but we can't get that here. Anyway, i decided to add some color to my already great bike. Here are the products i used and where i painted them.
I started with the front fender and stock plastic engine guard. I wasn't sure if i was going to like it so i painted them with peelable primer and then with the color i thought was closest to the Sandstone. I was a little impatient and the primer did a little orange peel effect and i still painted over it. It came out like bedliner but i still like it and some people think it's factory if i didnt tell them i painted it myself.
The gloss Navajo White came extremely close but it didnt have the sparkle or depth of the factory paint. Then i wanted to break up the black throughout the other parts of the bike. I liked that the factory made the engine cases a bronze-ish color and it matched the bronze in the lower part of the tank and on the sticker with the 'mountains.' I decided to try and match and blend those colors and spread it around. I found this
I couldn't believe how close the color is although it has a bit more 'glitter'or 'sparkle. So, i started with the leg guards by the footpegs and that slowly progressed to the grab rails, that went to the passenger peg brackets, then the windshield braces, to the handguards.
I think I'm done. Once you cross the line and it becomes to much. The black radiator cover and the battery cover are next. For me, something has to be done just not sure what it is yet, if anything at all? Maybe Altrider engine guards? Anyway, thanks for reading and have a great ride. Here it is as it stands today, with my new 10 mile old tires i put on yesterday
