Found this Rideapart review and test, dyno, video within the article. The Yoshimura does not seem too loud, low pitch, nice tone.

Update: due to prior history with them, I went ahead and bought the Yoshi slip-on only today. Will report back in a week or so when I get it. We'll see.

Read back, the issue (if confirmed) is a reported loss of power WITH the db killer installed as compared to the stock muffler. I have no interest in spending just under $480 to save 7lbs and lose power too, if this is true. Need to see data to believe its a loss.
Update: just found this Feb 2015 thread on these topics, a few of the posts and links indicate only a 2HP gain with slip-on only based on a Arrow dyno chart data provided. Seems to be 50/50, some say the Arrow gets loud even with baffle installed.

Other thread on YST forum: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=14649.0

Quote, "Arrow claim http://www.arrow.it/usa/prodotti/motociclo.asp?IDM=11&IDTab=1023. Note the chart scale is PS not BHP. Standard exhaust: 91.47PS, Arrow Slip On: 93.35PS, Arrow Full System: 99.02PS (or 90.22/92.07/97.67 BHP), unquote.
I can confirm that the biggest gain is installing the headers.
The bike feels like it has 100hp.

Funny, I wanted louder and 2 Bros fit the bill. Then I added the Arrow headers and it really cracks if you use your wrist. I would say a bit too loud now. Highway speed it's not bad but around town the Harley guys wonder what I have in my ricer.

I have the Yoshi and have the db killer in and it makes a great sound. So much so i have not even tried to remove it. It makes a distinctive throaty growl but isn't offensively loud. And its over 50% cheaper than the Akrapovic .......

How is the Yosh on the ears with a full face helmet on when riding sustained speeds on all day trips, say riding 70mph for long periods of time on the highway?

Having owned loud cars and bikes used more for shorter durations, it's all well and good except for long periods beyond a few hours where it starts to wear on you and it becomes a bit fatiguing after a long day. Hopefully the way you've described it, and noting how the new downward firing split baffle is now, should be okay - I hope. Some exhausts I've had before on other bikes became annoying. Never use to bother me in my younger years. I have noted a few posts on forums by owners removing their Yosh (older version) and putting the stock stock S10 muffler back on is why I asked, but I'm willing to try it anyhow. Still love the great sound of a nice exhaust note, but tend to be a little more careful now not to injure my ears more than I already have...thx.

What about arrow headers with a stock pipe? Is that even a thing that works? I have hindle headers with a stock Fz1 can on my Vmax. It's quiet unless you really get on it. Then it's just a little louder.

I was worried that might be an issue, but have not found it a problem. With the db killer in it's not that loud, it's just nice ::008:: There is no way I would consider putting the stock one back on. For a start I don't know anyone who owns a crane to winch it back into place ;)

Awesome. If I'm understanding correctly from your post and others I've read so far, seems like the Yosh has a nice sound/tone without being offensive at normal riding and cruising speeds. I suspect it has some bark to it once you hammer down on it, and that's fine too. Some times I leave on long day rides really early in the morning and want to be able to sneak out without waking the neighborhood up. So, if it's a bit more mellow at lower RPMs or when just bumbling along, that will be great. Thanks.

The Arrow sounds like it has a noticeably sharper bark than the Yosh in the videos, which I think will translate into being louder in person. Has anyone combined an Arrow header with a Yosh muffler?

talonboy,

Really? Please reconfirm If I am misunderstanding... are you saying the Arrow slip-on muffler with DB killer installed is reduced power / offering LESS performance as compared to the factory Yamaha stock muffler?
Yes my bike on the dyno with just the Arrow slip-on, with DB killer made slightly less power than the stock muffler! Removed the DB killer, and made a little more than stock muffler. I have never reinstalled the DB killer, and don't recall the sound level with it in place.

If you go back and watch those same videos (hi def) if possible, the majority have the db killer removed revving it in the Youtube videos - gotta look close, turn up brightness on your monitor too to really tell. Not easy to see in most videos. Very few video the bike with the new muffler with the db killer installed to show it's quieter (argh). The way you can tell when the db killer is removed on the Arrow in the more decent quality videos is the overly accentuated fluttering-rerversion sound on deceleration. Not a fan of that, rather annoying in fact. On the Yoshi, its easy to see now when the baffle tip is removed as it's external on the newer model version.

FYI, while researching slip-ons for too long I have come across several posts by people on advrider and this YST forum who successfully used the Arrow header in combination with a Yosh muffler.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. Exact same thing happened with my Yamaha FZ8 and stock fuel mapping. Removed the factory muffler, installed a high end aftermarket slip-on muffler and it was worse. Lost a little grunt off the bottom too. Yamaha engineers know what they are doing. While the stock big can mufflers are large and heavy, their engineers do a good job at designing them with various limitations and still meet noise/epa emission standards and not totally kill the motor. My '14 runs ok.

I'm hopeful the stock Yosh slip-on will work okay with the stock EFI mapping. Like it stock, but will remap it if I have to make the bike run right. Everyone seems to report that it does make a notable positive difference to remap, may try it later anyhow.

Does anyone know the size of the Allen screw in the Yoshimura exhaust, don't want to burger it up first thing. It is spot welded on my pipe.

Roger that!

Yoshi update: Installed a new Yoshi RS4 slip-on (only) on my Tenere today. It's nice, like you said, has a "distinctive sound" to it and "not offensively loud" - your description and others who replied was perfect.

Has a nice growl to it, and let's out a pretty good bark if you lay in to it. I'm find with the DB killer installed, would not want it any louder. Seems to do okay with the stock ECU mapping, a little more snap to the revs too.

Yes, what I have right now, have posted much on this in the past and spent time on a dyno comparing the CJM mod Vs stock and the Arrow headers Vs stock.

Arrow claim 9BHP for the system and 2.4BHP for the can, they do not give a figure for headers only....

....my bike showed an extra 6BHP with just the headers and no other mods (same dyno, but different day) and the top end improvement was very noticeable with the bike pulling right up to the redline without tailing off where with the OE system it felt like it was well out of puff before the redline.

With a good custom remap it gained a chunk more power, hard to say exact figures as it had an ECU-U map at one shop and then this was overwritten by a custom flash at another, may go back to the original dyno at some point to see what that shows now. Best guess is about 12BHP up with just the Arrow headers and the custom remap.

Now got an Arrow end can to fit so it may end up back on the dyno to fine tune the fuelling again.

Anybody know if the Arrow headers will work with the ACD skid plate?

They will work but you will have to adjust your plate a bit. The header extends about 3 eighths of an inch out too far. I layed my plate between 2 boards and took another 2x4 and bowed the plate out where it doesn't touch. Make sure you go a little farther than necessary as the pipe will expand and touch if you don't go far enough. Another person here cut theirs to make room but I didn't like that solution.

2 bros and subdued should not be in the same sentence , I have a 2 bros on my 13 s10 I didnt care for the carbon fiber so when I ordered the repack kit I got a new skin for it also , sounds alot better but quiet it isnt but it is fun to watch the hd guys look real fast and realize a metric sounds like that too.
