I was idlly browsing on AutoTrader bikes, like you do, when an advert for a brand new "Raid" edition super tenere caught my eye. I was looking at the bash plate that was fitted when I noticed that there was a link pipe between the two downpipes. The gen 1 bikes had this but it was removed from the gen 2 bikes. I was just wondering why the "Raid" bikes would need this feature. My only guess is that the Yamaha bash plate won't clear the fat cat from the later bikes so opted to revert to the earlier design rather than tweak the bash plate. Any other suggestions? What does the link pipe do?

Must be something Yamaha has done for the promotional shots because it looks the same on their website. Maybe they just Photoshopped an old picture...?

I've been considering buying an 2018 model Raid.

Below is a picture of the headers from the dealer's website.

My Raid Edition doesn't have the cross-pipe, I'm pretty sure my Gen 1 had one though.

llnked pipe supposely shifts the torque to lower rpms at the expense of max HP. Heard this from the Kawa Versys vs ER6 header pipes. The Versys has it but the ER6n/f does not have it.
