I swapped my basket to the updated version at around 13k miles, as the gen2 item was a big improvement over the gen1 item. At this mileage the plates probably still have 80% or more life still left in them, a waste of money replacing at this point.

There may be other low mileage Gen1 bikes out there where owners are replacing the basket, but with plates that are still like new. The basket is the problematic item, not the plates.

Just curious, why wouldn't you replace the plates? I mean its kind of one of those "I'm here" lets add the extra 10 mins to the job things its it?
Thank you Kyle for posting the great "how to video"!! I'm really liking the design of the OEM clutch!! And yes I agree 100% to replace the plates.

Not a waste of money at all. Just smart and judicious maintenance.

For me, junking virtually new items for the same items is a waste of money. The plates still have 50k miles in them. If they need changing in 3 or 4 years, I can suffer the 40 minutes it takes to do then.

I did Gen2 OEM basket and all the plates etc . worth the money .

I bought a second hand clutch basket , all the plates and goodies last year.
Used this until after xmas ( all those BILLS ).

Its a hours work, not hard ,it does give one an idea of how well Yamaha manufacture their bikes .
Used clutch cost 70 bucks , new cost about 950 bucks .

I have as spare or sale ,used Gen 1 basket and other goodies associated to this clutch job .
