I read many post but did not saw what I was looking for. It is winter time and that a good time to shop. I want to change the rear spring and will do the front also to keep the sag and rake even. Many info for the rears and I know what I want but for the front.... Look like the ES is forgotten. racetech and stoltech have nothing for the es.

I've saw that and the only thing I see there, is someone who sent his forks for a complete revalving and spring with is different. The spring they use is longer and, I think, can't be use as a direct replacement to ES fork that is shorter than the non-es. Like I wrote, I wrote to both stoltech and Race-tech and they answered they had nothing.

I started a conversation with Sonic Springs on an upgraded fork spring but didn't see it through. They sounded open to developing one a few months back. I sent them the service manual information/specifications for the OEM ES spring.

stoltech offered me the same thing but want a few customers. I think they need the spring outside diameter (think it is 36mm) free length (395.6mm) , wire diameter (?) number of coils (?), as a reference. I saw they have customs spring quote on their website. If I had the info (bike stored for winter)with me I would do a drawing for them.

I think the OD of the coil, the free length and the spring rate are the most important variables. I think they need some elbow room so they can trade # of coils, wire diameter, etc. to tune in the desired rate. A stiffer spring is either going to have larger wire diameter, fewer coils or both.

I just wrote to Sonic, we'll see. Now I need to figure out if I should get a lower rate that I would normally do with conventional fork. ES springs look like 5% less than the non-es then take 9kg/mm instead of 9.5kg/mm

sonic gonna do it custom: 139.99 I'll dive. need to know if the stock spring diameter. Bike stored, someone know if stock is 36 or 37mm. racetech say 36 on their catalog and sonic think it is 37

Just put down the phone after a nice long(ish) chat with a tech at Hyperpro Head-office.
I told him I now have a first gen. S10 with their complete package installed and am now thinking about going the ES way.
I asked him why they don't have upgrades for the ES. Is the ES suspension THAT good or are they still developing/testing their upgrade?

His story:
To start with: He is not overly exited about the ES because it has the same "problem" as all the other S10's; Front and rear suspension do not work in harmony and therefor there is no balance in the bikes.
On the non-ES versions they fixed that but on the ES they can't.

The one-and-only reason is the electronics. When they tried a stiffer spring on the back the servo could not handle that and stopped working. The same happened with the front fork so eventually they quit trying.

So as far as Hyperpro is concerned: It is what it is. Nothing more nothing less.... :-[

Not sure I buy Hyperpro's story. Many here have fitted significantly stiffer rear springs, myself included (+28%), and not had any problem with the adjustment servo. I believe they may have failed to set the shock to the home position before replacing the spring. That will cause a suspension error, even in that case it can be cleared from the diagnostic menu and normal function restored.

With respect to fork springs, the ES models do not adjust preload anyway (just damping), so there should be no effect from the electronic system due to a spring change at all.

Over on http://advrider.com/index.php there is a guy who replaced his front springs on the non ES model. It is in a "build" type thread of his. A problem he ran into was the taper at the top of the original spring. The OEM spacer that is used fits into this taper. As the aftermarket springs don't have this taper it allowed the springs to rattle all around. He has a lathe and made his own spacer to the new springs. There good pics of all this. Sorry I don't have the link but worth the search. I haven't measured my front sag yet but have had to replace the rear spring for way too much sag back there. Would be real interested in what you end up doing. Seeing the spacer problem has held me up.

Rich at Cogent Dynamics had springs made with the taper in them for my FJ-09. Took a little longer but its doable.
