Hi all. The battery in my ES is positioned with the top facing out. It's always been like this. Problem is it sticks out too far. When i looked at photos of other Teneres probably the Gen 1 the battery is on its side with the top facing left. So it sits further back. The way its wired on the ES suggests this is how it is. However this arrangement makes getting the side panel off a real pain in the ass when you have Altrider bars on. Am just wondering if mine has been done differently ?20200730_131850_HDR.jpg

Yours is the first I've seen like that and the factory mount holds the battery with the top face afterward. Removing the side panel with the battery properly mounted requires slightly pulling on the panels' lower front corner to get over the battery but it does go.

Thanks for the reply Checkswrecks. Yeah it just doesn't look right to me but i checked the markings the retaining strap left on the old battery and it looks like it was always that way. Plus the wiring for the earth doesn't look like its been moved. Obviously Altrider set the bars up for the battery being positioned top side facing left which is not the same as mine. Anyway anyone putting Altrider bars on an ES with my battery position should take note as the panel removal is alot more difficult.

As is my '17. (as long as "backwards" means that the top of the battery is pointed toward the back of the bike)
If anyone with an ES gets the opportunity to take a photo i would be much obliged. I have moved my positive connection to the side now and its much better.20200730_144434_HDR.jpg

Ha!! Apparently Stefan and I posted at the same exact same time. He made a bigger effort though, and pulled both of his panels. I was lazy, and just pulled my lower.

Thanks guys much appreciated. Cant understand how mine got put around the other way. Anyhow the panel should be easier to get off and on now. I just dont like pulling wiring around when its been sitting in a position for a good while as it could cause problems.

Thank you. Now the question is. . . . go "generic" at less than half the price? (but, possibly twice the problems) Or, stick with a know quantity/quality.
