Ergonomics, e.g. have to lift foot to brake?

At a slightly long-legged 6' tall, I find that my position on the bike doesn't allow me to reach the rear brake with lifting my heel off the foot peg. The shifter is similarly awkward.

Maybe it's the thick and inflexible new ADV boots, I'm not sure, but I seem to be more bent up on the Goldwing with no such problems.

Can anyone comment on your riding position, and whether or not you're able to actuate all of the foot controls without having to lift your feet off the pegs?

I won't argue that. But, I've never had to search for it, nor has my foot slipped off of it.

I don't have an issue with the shifter while sitting but I do find the brake pedal awkward. Like the OP I need to slightly lift my heel and its not a simple toe application. My GS was much better in that respect.
I even have the Altrider brake pedal mod and found it made it worst. But even worst then that riding standing makes rear brake applications very difficult and shifting nearly impossible. Its like they are completely in the wrong location for standing and somewhat wrong for sitting. Maybe better suited for shorter riders.
I'm trying to get use to it because I have yet to figure a workable solution.
The boots arn't the problem, I tried runner same deal.

I am 6 foot 2 and also have to lift my right foot to place my foot on the rear pedal, I modified the threaded section on the rear master cylinder (had to cut about 1/4 inch of the end) allowing me to lower the rear brake pedal further, I no longer have to lift my foot. I did forget to adjust the rear brake light switch and thought my cruise control had failed as it would not work, then I noticed the brake light was on all the time!! Adjusted the rear switch and everything has been great since.

+1 for pivot pegz. after a few thousand k's and quite a bit of adjusting (shifter and brake pedal) i find them fine. never could ride in mx boots. even the forma adv's i wear took some breaking in.

Thanks for the feedback and validation everyone.

I thought of lowering the brake lever as well, and took a look at the mechanism and realized it would take a bit more fiddling than just turning an adjustment nut.

Can someone enlighten me as to what the Pivot Pegz do? Their website doesn't seem to explain them in plain English.

And just to provide a bit of context for everyone, my real concern here is that when I get in the thick of it, I won't be able to modulate the rear brake as accurately as I might like if I have to lift my whole foot off the peg (and now I'm using the large muscles of my leg instead of the finer muscles of my ankle and foot).

its huge

I'm afraid that looks like it would make my problem even worse, as it's very tall and I'd have to lift my foot even further off the pegs to reach up to catch it.

pivot pegz pivot...fore and aft..not much, but its enough to accomodate the change in ergos created by standing. allows for much better shifting/ braking whilst standing lent forward over the bars when your riding gravel. really well made (Tasmanian?) product. not cheap. be wary of chinese copies

The adjustment is not difficult - had to do both brake and clutch when I bought a pair of adv boots (forma low) - it is worth figuring it out and no need for other gimmicky parts imho

I don't bother to cover the rear brake in normal riding . i keep 2 fingers on the front brake lever, and if i need to brake in a hurry I just give it a yank and let the linked ABS figure out the rest for me.

I have this basic issue my S10 and WR250R. I dropped the WR250R brake lever as low as it would go and I still have to lift a bit. I'm just used to it on the S10 now, so haven't messed with it. Other bikes don't have quite the same issue, but still some. I attribute some of it to my duck feet - my toes point pretty strongly outward when in a resting position. On bicycles I often get pedal extenders or very wide pedals. Can't ride clipless.

But for some reason, Yamaha seems to have more of an issue for adjustment limits and the general positioning than others.

I recall lowering my rear brake pedal. I had to shorten up the threaded stud that goes from the master cylinder to the clevis. You will also have to adjust the rear brake switch. Then I added one of these tips.
The stock tip is held on with a rivet. I ground the rivet off and attached the new tip with a 1/4" screw and nut. The new tip actually extends the pedal forward enough for my size 14 boots.

I also find the rear brake peddle small. I use it very seldom. Less than any other bike I have owned. Most of your stoping power comes from the front brakes. Since the brakes are linked it’s not a big deal. Have thought about adding a bigger peddle. Guess I figure all I would get for my trouble is worn out rear pads and perhaps rotors. It’s like our twitchy throttle you adapt and eventuality you get use to it.

I recently added this bigger two level pedal adapter. The lower level for seated riding, and the upper step for standup riding. I got it after pressing on the exhaust shield and thinking my brake had failed during some more technical riding.

I was going to say both the pedals are adjustable. I've got less flexibility than maybe I should, I can reach the pedals fine. The brake light switch is the only tricky part, more so with cruise.

Ii just broke down and got an Off The Road shifter. It has an adjustable tip with no rubber to smudge up my shoes. I wear size 12.5 boots. With the stocker. I was having to lift my foot to shift. I’ve had extendable shifters for many years on my Cr500s. If you get it out there you can toe shift instead of picking your foot to shift. Between pivot pegs and getting the shifter out there. I eliminated that annoying foot lift. Try one. You’ll keep it. I do find the pivot pegz unstable when standing off-road though. I put them on an Mx bike and took them off after one loop
