Nice pictures. We no longer get any of these shows here in Colorado. This State is full of motorcycles, car & race enthusiasts but none of these shows come here anymore. Too bad. Maybe the Convention Centers & Arenas charge too much $$$$?

Great pictures for us enthusiasts. Thank you.

The third picture makes me wonder how anyone could have the cam chain skip a tooth when changing the ACCT to a MCCT. I have read that problem more than once here and I just don't see how that could happen.

Yeesh, that looks terrible...and at only just shy of 50,000 miles? Was there any specific cause determined about why that happened?
It looks bad yes, but once cleaned, the head, valves, guides, looked brand new. No work needed.
The pistons were 5% worn from spec, and could have been re-used.
Culprit was the scraper ring, and rings, as well as the valve seals.

Waiting on 2016 pistons, rings, gaskets, seals. Will do a complete write up once done.

Easy. the intake cam is under big pressure. The minute the pressure is taken off the chain it will skip 1-2 teeth.
That's why when re-assembling the cams after changing shims, you need to tie wrap the intake cam gear to the cam chain

Yea, honestly I didn't think I saw anything alarming except those rings. (Although some things are hard to spot in just a picture) The carbon buildup is often dramatic looking, but there are some really good running internal combustion engines that look like that if you could peer in on them.

Knowing you, that Beast will be running better than when it was brand new, soon enough.

here's hoping Bruce.
My buddy Richard is guiding me through it. He's one of the top mc mechanics in the area. For the money and peace of mind, it was a no brainer.
Once bead blasted, all the bits came out looking new.

He said I can put the pistons back in if I wanted to. 5% wear in 80k km? of me riding it? I was staggered.
He did say that dirt made it into the cylinder. I'm countering that with uni filters to finish up the rebuild.

Stay tuned for a proper write up

Very interesting! I had never realized the Dual spark plug orientation was not symmetrical. Is there a reason one is tucked to the side? Less prone to flooding?

I must say I haven't seen carbon build up like that since my 2-cycle days!
not sure. my mechanic buddy said the carbon was normal. About 1/8" in thickness.
