I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Weird situation this morning on my way to work. Oil light kicked on for about a mile or so.

Air temp was around 45F. I let the bike warm up to 160F before riding. After doing a typical freeway entrance ramp hill climb, medium acceleration was at 80ish mph at top of the ramp. After popping over to the middle lane I looked down nothing was on. But about 5 miles later I looked down and the oil light was on. Was about to move on over and shut it down at next exit. But light went off before I reached it.

Get to work give it 20 mins and check the level. It's between the hash marks close to the high mark. So I'm clueless as to what could have happened.
Something I should worry about? Something I need to look at?

Iirc the light on the tenere is level, not pressure.

The sight glass is a fickle mistress.

I would change the oil and filter and put exactly 3.6l back in and see if the light comes on again.

First time I ever changed oil in a Tenere I drained the oil by using the sidestand which I suspect drains a couple more ounces than the centerstand method, took it for a two mile ride and everything seemed fine, the next morning was going to ride it to work but as I’m riding down the driveway I notice the oil light came on so turned around and put Tenere back in garage and took truck to work, that night I poured in a little more oil and the sight glass showed over full so took it for a ride and still over full so I drained some out and it seemed about right, in 50,000 miles that bike never used any oil so I suspect the oil issues that day were all caused by my own foolishness.

As said, it is an oil level light. Now that you’ve checked the oil level, I wouldn’t be worrying about it. If it comes on again add a splash of oil and forget. Or, as someone above suggested, if it’s due a change, do that instead.

Yes. I have never once had my oil light come on while riding. It is not normal. This is not something I would just let go. Do the diagnostics. It's simple. A whole mile with the light on is not right.

Unplug your oil level switch from the pan and check resistance, It should read 484-536 ohms when full and 114-126 ohms when empty. If not then replace the switch.

If it reads normal then you have another issue. It could be something as simple as the oil strainer or other galleries clogged to the point of starving the sending unit. Cool thing about the dry sump design on the Super Tenere is you can pop off the part of the pan that holds the screen and the sending unit comes out easy enough as well.

**EDIT**

Kyle I might also add to check your ohms both with the engine cold and fully warmed up. Oil switches are notorious for going bad only when the engine is hot.

The only time I saw my oil light come on was after a dirt nap with the top of the bike lying downhill. After running it for a minute or so (maybe less) the light went off and stayed off. What I think might have happened was that the oil spilled out of the dry sump reservoir into other cavities in the crankcase and the scavenge pump just took a little while to pump it all back into the sump reservoir once the bike was righted.
I always us 3.75 quarts and never see the light between oil changes.

FWIW, as someone that has ridden both Gens of Super Ten with over 150k of riding on them, this isn't that uncommon on cold days or just prior to oil change time. My Gen I would do this every now and then. The Gen II did it a few times in 45k. Even when the oil level was fine. Typical scenario was as you described, but if you stopped, shut the bike down and re-started and took off again, the oil level light wouldn't come back on. The only time I actually did have a low oil level condition was when I did 1500+ miles at higher rpms and the Gen I tends to pass a bit of oil into the airbox under those conditions. I used to carry a small bottle of oil for topping off and that solved the issue that day. That actually occurred the day after the long ride, cold start after the bike being outside overnight.

It's nothing to be concerned about. The light will stay on if you really have a low oil condition.

The pertinent part, his answer, (from Google Translate), was:

Either you had a low oil level, which is unlikely. Most likely, the oil pressure (level) sensor, or the oil pump, begins to ask for a replacement.
----------
Possible, but not a common issue for the Super Tenere. I had this happen before and after my CCT failure, and the oil pump and oil level sensor were checked out at 83k when the CCT failed, and were fine, according to the Yamaha tech that was re-building the motor.

This is the first oil change with the new longer 108A filter
Just a thought, wouldn't the longer filter mean that you'd need a little more oil than normal in there when you re-fill?
The extra oil required might just be enough to drop it under the threshold to trigger the light
