No experience using tubes but I've been carrying one for two years now. I only carry one tube, figure in a pinch I could use it in the rear also. Size is 100/90-19 or 4.00-19. I also carry HD zip ties and duct tape in case the tire gets a big split.

On my AK trip I carried two tubes, 1-17" & 1-19". A 19" tube is six inches longer in circumference than a 17' tube and if you put a 19 in the rear that extra 6" of tube is going to have to fold up somewhere in the tire. It would work in an emergency, but I wouldn't trust it very far. JMHO

Yes definitely for emergency use only. That's the only reason I carry it. I don't think the tube would fold over, just be careful on install and inflation. I've used a 21" tube in an 18" rim before w/o folding.

However I'm more concerned with a front semi proper fit tube than the rear anyway. E-07 Dakar's are practically run flat. Even with a big slice I wouldn't hesitate to try and carefully ride it out with the tire zip tied and duct taped on. Front tire in same situation not so much. Luckily I haven't had to do either. These Dakars are tough as nails. Not a single flat in 95k miles.
