Managed to have the shock repaired by Darren at MCT Suspension (not Jason as I mistakenly called him…!)
Shock internals had corrosion which ultimately led to the oil seal failure.
MCT removed the corrosion & infilled. Andy’s Motorcycle Workshop, in Bridport, removed/refitted the shock after sending onto MCT. Super helpful & great service from both.
Have just ridden back from Dorset, thankfully all good with the rear suspension working/feeling as it should do.
Thanks for everyone’s input, much appreciated

Hopefully not.
Apparently there is an access point/hole on the shock. MCT suggested applying some ‘Rubber Grease’ over to plug it.
I get the feeling that the previous owner left the bike out & rode it in all weathers, but appears didn’t take too much care in the way of checking/cleaning etc. He didn’t live too far from the sea so suspect it was exacerbated as the bike would have been exposed to salt more than would be normally be expected.
I’ve searched to see if this is a common issue but can’t find reports of anything similar anywhere. Has anyone heard of this failure previously?
Maybe just unlucky as the bike had covered only 16,800 miles when the failure occurred.

I absolutely cake my rear shock in ACF and it looks ok. Have done lots of touching up on the frame and repainted the front of the engine. I would suggest UK owners have a good look around their bike to check. I admit i don't treat my bike like a princess but I do look after it.
