My local dealer said he has heard there is an aftermarket electric center stand made for the Tenere. Anybody here heard of one and know where they might be purchased? I've done a few searches but have come up with nothing. Thanks,
bob

MRI is the name of a company that makes them for Harleys and probably Gold Wings too. I recall some being available way back in the 70s when Gold Wings got popular. Something like this would be heavy and cut into the ground clearance on an S10. I have wondered if a ride off center stand would make sense on an S10. It wouldn't get the rear wheel off the ground, but you could always block it up if needed. I'm sure a stock center stand could be modified. I had ride off stands on a couple of BMWs years ago and they worked very well.

Thanks for the swift replies. I'm hoping my dealer does know what a Tenere is, but stranger things have happened up here in the frozen North. I can survive without one, but my wife is having a difficult time getting the bike on the center stand. I suppose I'll have to get off before I have her do it if I cannot find an electric center stand. However, to her credit, she can skin a moose, pack water, and is pretty good at chopping wood!

While it's not electric, I installed something like this (maybe it was this one, but wow is it expensive now) on my S10 a few years ago: http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcycle/8500154.html

For me, it makes it much easier to get the bike up on the center stand.

Good luck!

LOL Dogdaze, this is where my marketing skills don't match up with my fabrication abilities. I'd have never thought of putting a handle on the bike, since there's a big grab handle already on the bike by the seat that you can grab for leverage. Plus, even if I had come up with it, I doubt I could have charged 165 bucks for it with a straight face.

:'( I would have bought one, but ok, not for $165 but maybe 1/2?

If you take off the plastic cover in front of the exhaust muffler, you have a perfect and 'FREE' handle!

I can see where you could get better leverage with that handle located where the ad is suggesting. It sounds like it does work. The only time I really could use a little extra boost and lower grip point is when I am traveling which is mainly what I do between Alaska, BC, the Yukon,Oregon, and all over AK. Thanks much for the tip.

Installing the trailer hitch required removal of the center stand which I had used every day till that point.

Didn't take long at all till I didn't miss it and still don't.

I got to admit, if the Tenere didn't have center stand, it wouldn't bother me a bit.
Not's like it is chain driven........... ::005::

Tire changes will be a little more interesting without a centerstand.

I've both hung it from the passenger grab handles and lifted it under the skidplate.
fwiw, hanging is easier.

Hmm, why an electric stand? My bike fully loaded down pops right up with almost no effort at all. Here is a video of proper technique.

That works fine at home in your own shop but what are your plans for removing the rear wheel while on a trip ? I have only owned a Tenere for a few years but have needed to remove the rear wheel while on trips twice, first time was to replace a rear tire, second time was to replace rear wheel bearings, without a centerstand it would have cost me a lot more money. Every motorcycle I’ve ever owned came equipped with a centerstand and I would be very reluctant to buy one without.
I realize you were forced to remove your centerstand to install the trailer hitch, but for anyone not using a trailer removing the centerstand seems like not a very good idea.

There are a few factors that affect the ease of getting a motorcycle up on its centerstand. One would be suspension height, the other is tire wear. A bike with an aftermarket suspension setup would sit higher than stock, assuming the springs are stiffer. (almost always the case) This makes it easier to get on centerstand. A lowered bike would be way more difficult to put on its centerstand. I notice with new tires it is easier than with worn out ones because of the difference in diameter. Even spring preload has an affect.
