Just curious Has anyone ever heard of any ECU failures on Tenere’s ?
That's the way it works. It's a UPS claim now. Hope you insured it, or the shipper did, for more than the cost of a new one and the cost of the flash. Unless you declined insurance for the return shipment, you might consider talking to the flash company about why they didn't insure it? Normally the receiver initiates the claim, but sometimes it helps if the shipper gets involved too. Best of luck! Thanks for the tip. I called my insurance this morning, but they won't cover it unless the thief physically removed the component from my bike. I personally don't see much of a difference... The outcome is the same--it renders my bike unusable until I buy a new part. I found a used one on ebay for $550. I'll probably go that route and hope UPS comes through with the insurance payment.
Fortunately I never had to file a claim for anything but I have heard it does usually take a pretty long time to collect .The package showed up with a hole at it at the place that was going to flash it. I'm the sender. The shipping included $500 insurance. I filed a claim the moment i found out. No progress yet from UPS. It's going to take weeks. The best outcome I even dare hope for is UPS paying out the insurance. Either way though, I don't want to wait to get an ecu. Tired of not riding.
The bottom numbers are the Denso part ID. Here is a picture of mine, with the same numbers. I can't find any other numbers on the ECU. Just the sticker. Here's a pic I took of my ECU before shipping it. The top number is the part number, I'm not sure if the bottom number is a serial number or not. I also made a secret mark on it to make sure I got back the same one I sent them.
It was stolen out of the package on the way to the flash place. I was the sender, and I did insure it for $500.That's the way it works. It's a UPS claim now. There was some casualness on the end of the receiver who was going to flash it (Not naming names! They are being very helpful as I try to sort this out, and when I get my new ECU, its going straight there to get flashed). The UPS guy dropped off the empty package. The receiver saw the package, and without actually handling it confirmed delivery. Honest mistake-he had no reason to believe it would be empty, and hadn't noticed the slit on the side! By the time he picked it up and found it empty, the UPS guy was gone. He called me immediately to let me know what happened.Err, if it showed up at the flash place with the hole and missing ECU, THEY should have made a box exception on the spot! And they should be initiating the claim, as they were the end customer for the package, not you. Yes, it was your property, but their package. I'm not 100% sure it matters who initiates the claim, but if they accepted the package w/o taking a box exception for the visible damage/hole, that's not going to help your claim any.
I wish it would work in my 2012! I've been watching 2 ECUs from wrecked bikes on ebay. Neither have moved. Probably I'm literally the only person in the world at the moment in the market for a used Super Tenere ECU haha. I plan to buy one and have it sent straight to get flashed as soon as I can afford it. Hopefully UPS will eventually come through with compensation.I have a spare ECU (2016 ES) in case anyone needs it.
Let me know.
Sadly the deductible is probably high enough to make it not worth the claim. If it was something purchased on a credit card, again that might have been an avenue to explore, but it would have had to have gone missing on the opposite end, when the flashed ECU was being delivered back to him.Might want to check with your home owners insurance, they do cover a lot of things that would surprise you.
That's what I'm finding. I'm going to just buy a new ecu and get on with my life. Tired of being angry about it. The nice weather won't last more than another two months here in Utah, and I'm not about to miss canyon carving when those fall colors start to show up! If UPS comes through with an insurance payment, I'll just count myself lucky.Sadly the deductible is probably high enough to make it not worth the claim. I understand what you're up against with USP. Even as a vendor with an account, claims were a pita and difficult to push along. With pictures and a box exception taken when the package arrived it was easier, but still a battle.
I am amazed they even said they would cover it. My homeowners insurance company (State Farm) will not cover any motorized vehicle that you can get insured, meaning that if my house burns down with any type of vehicle in it that is not insured on its own, I'm fuggered.Home owners not worth the claim. Most have $500 to 1000 dollar deductibles and will use your claim as an excuse to raise your premium. Some one in Balt. Cut my chain link fence and stole my wife’s cheap Chinese scooter. I never filed a claim. Only inquired about my deductible and would it be covered should I file a claim.
They tried to raise my premium claiming I had filed a claim. I explained that I had not made a claim but I going to shop your competitors after this call . They were persistent that I filed a claim. I asked for a copy of the canceled check. Then they retreated claimed it was a filing oversight.
