It’s my understanding that only the pre-14 Gen 1 bikes were restricted in the gears 1-3 and that the 2014 and onwards Gen 2 bikes here not restricted which is why flashing the ECU is more beneficial on Gen1 bikes.
In theory yes, but the restriction of the first 3 gears, you can eliminate them with a clutch lever switch, much cheaper than a reflash, dangerous because it can start in gear

Not true, Gen 2 had reduced restrictions vs Gen 1 but not eliminated like a refash can do. There are plenty of Gen 2 reflash reviews out there. All have been positive and note significant improvements. I have not yet heard or read of a single person regretting their reflash, both Gen 1 and Gen 2. But as with anything you cannot miss what you have not experienced. If you're happy with your bike as is then by all means save your money and buy gasoline and go on a long ride instead.
