In my experience, if you have a gen2 euro3 bike 2014-2016 then unplugging the o2 sensors (with a couple of o2 eliminator plugs to avoid a fault code) works great as the bike defaults to a good base map and there’s far less need for a remap. Euro4 bikes, 2017 on, respond differently to faulty or absent o2 sensors because the ecu appears to keep excessively richening then leaning out the mixture to kick the sensors into life. Anyway, you can’t just unplug the sensors with the euro4 bikes - they need a remap to make any improvement.

interesting thread ..... my 2019 is a good bike ,but after a year and a half ownership I feel is just not as good as the gen 1 bike . gen 1 bike had tractor torque , never noticed any driveline slop . Generation 2 in first in low rpm's feels like its a gear to high with the drive line sloppiness . will a flash address this issue ? the bike gets better fuel milage than my old '12 , once your up in rpms it runs great . like the cruise control , love the heated grips . but only just" like" my '19 .

Hatter i have felt the driveline effect on both gen 1 and gen 2 bikes. I always just attributed it to shaft drive by nature.

Just fyi i did not flash my bike for more power. I flashed it for smoother power delivery.

That's exactly why I'm considering it. My hope is that it'll make the bike safer (for me) while hustling the corners. Again, it's relative to my riding style (not high rpms in the corners, just want the smoothness).

* BTW, I bet you like the Yosh slippy  Tbh, I'm okay with the stock exhaust note (engine firing order makes that so). I just want to shed some weight from this big ol' tank (lithium battery too, once the stock is done) ;)

Any opinion on the right throttle body screw I’ve read people are turning out 3/4? It seems the euro bikes that’s how it comes from the factory but the American bikes it’s turned all the way down (clockwise).

I’m curious as I do have my 2016’s ecu flashed if it’s still ok to do.

I’ve never done a throttle body synch on an ST because the idle has always been fine on my 2014 and 2017 (I don’t believe it has much effect above tickover). Others here have noticed a significant improvement from doing it, so I’m sure they’ll chime in with advice, but it’s fine to synch whether you’ve had an ecu flash or not.

It doesn't matter what year it is it will be the same. I would imagine most people if they rode a flashed bike then got on a stock one would get theirs done.
Thanks for clarifying which model you have, but I believe that it does matter which Gen bike you have as the Gen 1 bikes have restrictions on the first three gears whereas the Gen 2 bikes don’t have that, therefore I believe the Gen 1 bikes have more to gain.

No a flash will not help. From 2nd gen models to present Yamaha partnered with BMW engineers and are using the GS tooling and various rejected GS parts to built the driveshafts. We can only hope we do not have driveline failures. The sloppiness you are experiencing is a common trait to our Super Tenere's. I recommend to sell your bike before the driveline breaks and catches on fire.

That's what I believe.

Sorry I wasn’t asking if I can still sync throttle bodies post flash, but wether opening up the right side throttle body screw was useful on a flashed bike. Usually it’s the left one only that gets adjusted to the factory set right one.

A very valid point......and using an anaemic BMW Star*fucks espresso for lubrication. All Tenere riders should be aware that it requires a 25 second shot as a MINIMUM!

I have a Gen 2 with Anthony flash. If I were to do it agin, I would likely go with his Standard Sport mode, and move the original Sport mode to Touring (maybe remove lower gear restrictions), so engine braking could be switched back on for the occasions I would like it. I've never used tour mode much before or after the flash.

With Nels Flashtune flash, i only use T mode.

My t mode is 1:1 above 50 % throttle. That means its S mode above 50%.

Its the best of both worlds: great low throttle fueling that is butter smooth, and the bike explodes when i give it a real handful.

S mode is reserved for aggressive twisting roads when i want to really get down.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I understood that Gen 2 bikes didn’t have the restrictions in gears 1, 2 and 3? My Gen 2 certainly doesn’t appear to have any restrictions in those gears.

A recent Big Bend/Ft. Davis area trip and lots of regular riding in heavy city traffic, has me committed to trying the ECU flash on my 2016 ES. For my riding style, it's purely a matter of safety first. So, the ECU is on the way to 2 Wheel Dyno Works as I write. I suppose a distance test will take place during a Four Corners tour next month (NM, CO, UT & AZ). I will report back post-flash for sure ;-)
