Have a word with Geoff at Hilltop Motorcycles Leicester. He did my 800 Tiger and 2015 Tenere. Not sure about the Gen 1 flash as they have gear restrictions too.

As fac191 says, Geoff is your man ........... hilltopmotorcycles.co.uk/.

Very popular with the GS fraternity, but does S10s too. There are various implications to consider, so have a chat & think long & hard first - reversal aint free.

Do you get a choice of set up? ie economy or performance or is it even possible to get better on both?
Id love to get better mpg coz i do stacks of miles every day and only get about 48mpg.

As I understand it, the idea is to remove various restrictions - low gear power output, drive by noise containment, lean fuelling conditions. Thus mpg improvement seems a tad unlikely as the bike will probably run slightly richer & you may be more tempted to exploit the extra low gear performance available. Everything depends on one's riding style, but I would expect a good 55 mpg (UK) from a standard Super10, in give & take riding, maybe more on a cruise. Your 48 wouldn't seem out of line commuting in heavy traffic.

Anyway, best to give Geoff a call at Hilltop to discuss. He is the expert.

If you talk tot he folks doing the flash they may be able to get you a touch better mpg, but most of it is engine displacement and aerodynamics of a brick. We're pushing a pretty big blunt silhouette through the air.

Also that throttle grip seems to be a nasty gas drinker, it doesn't take much to get her moving especially after the flash.
I get steady gas mileage just by controlling my right hand and keep an even steady speed.
Humping up steep hills and mountains will bring the MPG down.

I took my XT to Hilltop but couldn’t tell the difference afterwards, so had “it” reversed and got a refund. He doesn’t remap the bike in the conventional sense because he doesn’t have access to the ecu fuel and ignition tables, so he also can’t make any adjustments to gear restrictions, engine braking rate, fan temps, rev limiter or disabling closed loop etc. He apparently puts some code into the ecu that interferes with the ecu output to the injectors (like a piggy-back device), but nobody is sure. It’s popular with the BMW GS lot, but they’ve no choice as the Bosch ecu is nigh on impossible to remap and they’re not the most discerning bunch…

Anyway, the XT ecu is fully accessible and programmable, so there’s no need to resort to such questionable “tuning”. I took mine to Track Electronics in Norwich and the improvement was substantial.
