It's definitely a fun time at D2D. This can be an epic adventure depending on your route choices and the weather. If you're on the fence, Do It!!
Wife and I did this last year and had a great time. ::008::

At 60 years old I'm on the back 9 so I'm going while the choice is still available to me. Thanks for your reply. What tires did you run on the Tenere when you attended?

I ran Heidenau K60 Scouts and in Dawson City, Yukon at the D2D event it was like a K60 sales convention there were so many bikes equipped with K60 Scouts. Another good tire is the Mitas E07. I got 12k miles from the rear K60 that I used on the D2D trip, with the trip being 8k miles and 30 days long. I like that the K60s hold up well to pavement running and give you a better edge off pavement than the 80/20 tires do. The Mitas is better in the muck though since it doesn't have a center rib on the rear tire. No data from me on how long the Mitas lasts, but long enough for the trip from what I have read on this forum about them.

We went over Top of the World hwy after the D2D event and it rained that morning until about 9 am. We stayed in Dawson City until noon, and conditions on the TOW hwy dramatically improved in those 3 hours. (which is what "The Dick" told us.) A few days before it had been snow and deep, loose gravel in the construction zones near the border, but when we got there it was packed and dry. Some mud and snotty sections on both sides of the border, but nothing airing down 10 psi from our pavement pressure didn't overcome. I would strongly suggest you air down once you cross the river, or when you leave the paved section. There are a couple of other short paved sections no the TOW hwy, but nothing to worry about. Stay aired down all the way to Chicken and out to the main hwy. And watch for road damage and potholes or un attended road construction sections everywhere in the Yukon. They don't always mark them with a flag or cone like in AK.

Wrong is completely subjective! ;) It's all in the wrist. And leaving TCS on helps. Sail2X got something like 26k from his. I think he must travel slower than either of us, but he goes more places, that's for sure.

The D2D trip was a blast. Can't afford to go back next year, but you never know.

I know this might come across kind of morbid, but has anybody done the dust part of Dust to Dawson? A close friend of mine rode to the Arctic Circle with a gent he met on the internet. He had a bad cancer. Two years later Doug brought some of his ashes back to Dawson and the Circle. It's a pretty cool story.

All true. Although things have improved dramatically up here in the last several years. In particular, beware the Carmacks Highway Maintenance region. It will be marked when you enter it and leave it. For some reason, the "Carmacks" section is generally awful. Most of the other regions are pretty good. Some very good. And K60's are great up here. The chip seal on the "highways" up here is like sandpaper, and chews tires up like crazy. The K60's stand up to it remarkably well. Yukon Yamaha stocks them for the Tenere (Whitehorse). You won't find them anywhere else in the Yukon. Don't forget the Chateau Remo if you're passing through. Lots of room to camp, showers, kitchen privileges, garage with lift and tools, etc. You get the idea. R ::022::

I did D2D this year (2015) and may go again in 2016, but two-up if I go. It was a great time.

I didn't stop in Whitehorse, so didn't say hi to Rem. Sorry!

But I did go on to Inuvik after D2D.

You can read all about my trip here;

D2D would be on my list for this year but I'll be riding along the California coast at that time. Depending on finances, it will be on 2017 list. It looks like a really good time.
