Hello,

I wanted to post up here about a project I did back in July. While preparing for a week-long motorcycle camping trip I wanted a good way to carry my camera that was easy to get to. After some research of various bags I came up with a Wolfman Blackhawk as my target.

The Blackhawk is a small to medium sized bag with your typical clear top map pouch. The bag is well designed and stoutly made, typical of Woflman Luggage quality. Inside the bag.

Now to make it serve my purposes. The thought was bag plus foam plus camera equals victory. Luckily I had a perfectly sized foam brick to start the project leftover from my ham radio installation project.

The bag is cut to comply with your typical ADV/Dual Sport steeply sloped tank. Good for maximizing capacity but bad for making a floor for the camera. Out comes the utility knife to make a foam wedge to fill that gap.

Next I laid down a sheet of 1/2 foam to act as my floor (this is in addition to the already softish floor of the bag). Then I took my main foam brick and outlined the shape of my camera with the largest lens I'd commonly use (75-300mm) with a sharpie and cut the resulting shape out of the bag then slipped the carved out brick into the tank bag.

While I could have cut additional material out for extra lenses I opted not to do that in order to maximize the amount of foam protection around the camera. I carried lenses elsewhere. Here we are with my two typical lens load outs.

With the the camera in place there is more than enough room to fold the neck strap up into place in the bag and close it up. The bag worked great on my trip carrying my camera plus a few other small items. Removing the bag for fueling is as easy as snapping the two top buckles and hinging the bag out fo the way.
