I’d like to try one but beside the weight I can’t find one that fits my long oval head.
My Arai Profile is very comfy but 10yrs old. I really need to update and would like to try one again.

Years ago I had a BMW Shurbert but it didn’t fit well.
Scorpion helmets are slight oval. So if you are like me, they do not fit properly without mods (insert the warnings about reshaping the foam...etc).

I was really excited to buy the Neotec, and it felt OK in the shop I tried in on and purchased it from, but what a mistake. I thought I would get used to it, rode around 50 miles a day for a couple days and it was not real great, feeling heavy, pressing on my glasses ect. Next day I had 100 miles or so planned. I like the flip up, I will say that, but the rest of it was horrible. Terrible noise even with vents closed, with vents open, beyond horrible, and the vents kept opening by themselves slightly, so I kept closing them off. Of course as before it was pressing my glasses into my nose with what felt like 10lb of weight. Speaking of weight, the helmet is heavy, but most all the weight is due to the chinball and associated metal brackets and all those up front give the helmet like 70% weight up front, 30% rear, so that is why the glasses get squashed on the nose. Looking through the shield there is so much optical distortion I was nearly sick after 50 miles to my destination. I was sure not looking forward to the 50 mile ride home. Again I thought maybe I would be OK and forget or get used to the helmet somehow, but no. I barely made it. I sold it and a Neotec will never be allowed to even visit my house again.
In 50yrs of riding I think only the mercury free carb stix from motion pro rate lower than the neotec out of all the things I've ever used.
Back to standard Arai for me.

Have a Schoei Neotech 2 like a friends' and he recently landed on the side of the face, slid along on the visor, then slid on a spot above and behind an ear. It was good to see the front stayed shut and how well the helmet held up.
I hope he held up as well as the helmet. The face opening in a crash situation would be my biggest concern. 2nd would be no Snell Certification on any modular that I'm aware of. As an Arai helmet snob, I'm pretty much obliged to use the XD4 and while a great helmet, I wish there was a flip-up option out there.

FortNine recently reviewed some popular ADV-type lids...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=827sTrKSEWA&t=0s

I wear a modular since a regular full face is hard for me to wear with glasses. I have been hit in the face with enough !@%# in my life to know I should have full coverage. I recently replaced my Nolan N102 with an N104 Absolute (different from the EVO) Compared to the 102, the 104 is

1. quieter
2. more plush
3. more room for speakers
4. marginally better vented
5. internal sun visor
6. can be ridden with the face shield up and the sun visor down

OTOH it is

1. more round (for us watermelon heads)
2. smaller. I had to exchange if for the next size larger. I also installed replacement cheek pads for the next size larger which helped A LOT
3. a bit heavier
4. as previously noted, you have to get creative to mount your Sena to the helmet.

Overall? it is an improvement

Your mileage may vary

I'm wearing the new Nolan 100-5. Nolan has really stepped up their game. Nolan's oval shape has always been a good fit, but this is quitter and more "solid" than past modular I've worn...

Used a flip on one 2,500 mile trip, caught myself unintentionally riding with it flipped up to many times, since a flipped up helmet wouldn’t be much help in an accident I decided to stick with the old fashioned non flip full face helmets.

On the Neotec if you attempt to ride with the front flipped up instead of the weight being 70% front, 30% rear, the weight shifts to about 80% directly above the head. Feels like gluing a brick on top of a normal helmet would feel. I sold the thing to a guy upgrading from a cheap flip up, and he liked it. My gosh if the Neotec is good, I'd sure hate to try to wear a cheaper brand. :)

I see the Caberg Tourmax offers an external ADV sunshade / sunvisor / sun visor in a modular. I think it's also called a "peak".

Too bad that appears to be a Euro Only helmet, no distributors in the USA.

I see the Schuberth E1 as well. Spendy at $750 for solid colors.

Do any other modulars have an external peak?

The Scorpion EXO-AT950 modular has external peak, internal drop down sun visor, will accomodate bluetooth speakers, and comes in solids and some pretty cool hi-vis and camo colors for less than 300 bucks. I can confirm (as with the GT920) that the cheeks are a little tight until it breaks in some.

The Shoei Neotech 2 Helmet is the absolute most comfortable helmet I have ever slipped on my head. I have had dozens of full face helmets over the years. This one fits snug and squeezes my cheeks with zero pinching. Best of all you can flip up the chin bar to have a quick drink, snack, or chat. I also found myself really liking the drop smoke visor to block the sun from your eyes. It’s a all day wear helmet that cuts through the wind like a knife with zero head bobble. I had no fatigue whatsoever at the end of my ride.

Funny chocolate energy bar story though. Here is what happened: I'm thinking, cool a little snack from my tank bag. So I get to the gas station this morning and just want to fuel and ride. I'm wearing my first time ever a modular helmet. I forgot I flipped up the chin bar. So I'm trying to wedge this protien bar in between the chin bar that wasn't there like a normally do with a full face helmet. I had to laugh!!

I want to give a very special thanks to my mother for begging me to wear a helmet when I was 19 years old. It was at a time we had no helmet law. I crashed hard and destroyed the helmet. It was a combination of my mother and a Shoei full face that saved my life. I have been wearing this brand and they’ve saved me more than once ever since. Thank you mom!! I love you…..

The Touratech Aventuro Mod, which is an E1 with better venting. TT USA discounts them on Black Friday, I got mine for 25 percent off.

I have used a modular for years . I ride with it open all the time except when it rains . And it closes up in a crash , at least in the last 3 crashes .

I have no problems riding with the Neotec lid flipped up. But I have been riding with Modulars since forever so I am used to how it feels. I absolutely LOVE my neotec, and dread the day I need to replace it because when you add in the cost of the built in Sena unit its an almost $900 purchase. But its THAT good, that I will do it again for sure.

Any experience with the Bell SRT Modular?
Do a search when you get to a real computer. There are several comments. Some like it ok, some hate it, all seem to agree it's louder than most Modular helmets. Check out LS2 helmets for better quality in the same price range, but stay away from the previous generation of Metro with chin vents w/o the ability to close them. It has plugs that you can remove, but it's either open or closed and it was very, very noisy. Even w/ear plugs, too loud for com/music use. No experience with the new V3 version of it.

Thanks I did a search and the only place that helmet comes up is my posts in this thread, the Bell Revolver is a different helmet. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Currently using a Shoei Neotech. The Bell attracts me because they offer a Transitions type face shield. Shoei will not offer a transitions type shield on any of their helmets that also have an internal drop down tinted shield. Kind of an overbearing nanny approach if you ask me.
