G'day people, new to this site and dont quite own an S10 yet. Its 5am sunday morning and im finding hard to sleep with the thought of owning an S10 very soon. The thing is im at a fork in the road (where the tarmac meets the dirt). Ive made up my mind that im getting this bike but the question is, is a Super ten awesome enough to trade my beloved 07 softail custom in for it. Im a big guy (6ft 7in) and so for me its about finding a bike that fits, aswell as being practical. I finally convinced my wifey last night that it was a great idea and if i dont, its possible the world really could end this year haha.
Im an occasional hunter so the thought of owning a bike that will not only take me long distance but get me to the back tracks is to unbearable to ignore. Having sat on the S10 yesterday its like my whole life was a prelude to this moment (sounds dramatic hey)! But thats really how im feeling. The harley although its a big bike doesnt fit me aswell as it should which is very dissapointing, and after sitting on the blue dream maker S10 ive found that its the first bike ive truly felt comfortable on. After taking it for a test ride I felt as though i was having an intense affair and being unfaithful to my harley, so im starting to wonder if the feelings are real or just the excitment of a new relationship?. ::014::
So do I or dont I? p.s the other option is finance ::015::

That's a tough call. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that I see a lot of people wind up selling their old rides. They just don't ride them anymore because they're always on the Tenere! The damn thing just fulfills so many rolls that it's like "One bike to rule them all" sorta thing. You'll just have to evaluate you're emotional ties to your HD and be the judge.

Either way........... ::022::

Any change can be difficult.
If its an "awesome" looking bike you are after then I think the S10 isnt it .JMO......But , if its a fantastic ride that will take you anywhere and get you back with no problems then this is the bike
If you feel comfortable riding it then get it

I would think it depends on how much the dealer is willing to pay for the trade, in real money. Also if you owe money on the trade. If you are saving money on taxes and the trade is fair to both parties, it could be a good deal.

You said the soft tail does not fit you that well and at your size I can see why. lol
You can change the ergos for a tall person pretty easy on the tenere, but in the end, it is your choice. ::26::

To me the Super Tenere rides smoother, more comfortable, handles better, Is faster, Stops better (ABS that works very good on and off road) and gets better MPG than any Harley or any big cruiser for that matter.

My wife loves riding 2-up on this bike better than any that we have had, including a custom seat Yamaha FJR.

This bike can take you down dirt roads to adventures and places you could not normally experience on a road only bike. ::012::
Harley's are a fine looking motorcycle but then again I think the Big XT is too. :)

In the end these are two different motorcycles built for two different types of riding. The Tenere can do all that the Harley can do and a lot more except it is not excepted as well at a Harley bar. ::025::

Welcome on, Tolong. I'm a puny 6 footer, so I can't help you much, but there are some big ol' boys on this forum as I recall. One of them will see your post soon enough and can likely help you out. Sounds to me like you've pretty well made the decision. I sold my KLR and will likely sell my ST1300 this summer. The Tenere suits me to a .... uh, "T", if you'll pardon my pun.

Good luck to you and let us know. R ::004:: ::022::

Hey Tolong,

One BIG advantage you have being of large proportions is your ability to use this bike well off road.

The downside is that the bike is set up for an average person. (I assume about 180cm and 80Kg) or there abouts.

You should factor in a bit of ergonomic work and springs, if you want to get the best from it. It wonlt be a dud without that, but down the track after you have gotten used to it you may find you want to get that extra out of it.

But, once set up, it will be a hoot. Like the others have said, it will do so much that a cruiser won't do that I think you will wonder why you limited yourself.

I'll leave you with a video of a giant playing with a standard s10.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome guys, and yes Im totally sold on the bike! I guess I was looking for abit of encouragement and thats excactly what I got. Another plus for getting the bike is the fact that around here police tend to pick on harley riders more often and the way I see it is you ride your bike for freedom and stress relief not to be hassled everytime I want to go for a squirt.
Sooo time to pack the old girl up with all her bits, take her to the pound and let a new chapter begin...

Welcome aboard Tolong! Tuff decision, as it was for many of us when we got our SuperT's. I had a FJR and a KLR and it was hard for me to give up the FJR.

Good luck!

Welcome Tolong. ::004:: Good decision. ::008:: If you let us know what part of Oz you're in, you might be able to meet up with fellow S10 owners.

Well ive finally gotton off my bike long enough to take some pics!! Since the last time I posted and due to the fact that I loved my bike so much, a mate of mine has managed to get his hands on one aswell! So we took a little ride around the southern parts of South Australia.
