Hey guys, just noticed this on my 2017 Super Tenere...one of my exhaust pipes is "frosted" and the other one isn't. I have a little over 13k miles on the bike and I don't think this started until the last few hundred miles. Has anyone else noticed this, and does it indicate an issue/problem...maybe that one cylinder is running hotter than the other?IMG_7560.jpegIMG_7562.jpegIMG_7561.jpeg

That's bizarre. It looks like baked on dirt... almost like it took a dirt nap on that side. Definitely weird.
I've see pipes get red hot and turn blue but I've never seen one that looks like that that wasn't a result of hot pipes and baked on dirt/sand after a ride offroad.
I'm assuming based off of the picture that you didn't take it off road or drop it in some baby powder soft sand, soooo... yeah sorry man, that's just weird.

Don't know what the experts think and I am not one but having seen what my headers were like when I got them off i believe the right side one was blowing as the engine paint underneath it was bad. That's what it looks like to me the non expert.20220926_105446_HDR.jpg20220926_105436_HDR.jpg

My pipe on that side is more caked too since it is more in line with the front wheel. It has a tougher life.
I suspect this. Where have you ridden in the last few months? Any rain riding?
My guess is it would clean up pretty easy given your mileage. Both of mine look more like your left one...

Search for many prior threads on this and you'll find it totally normal.
The pipes are stainless and will clean up with shades of blue.
Then quickly look like that again.

Completely normal on the S10, its caused by the front wheel blasting the elements of what ever it is riding on, the alignment of the front wheel is with that particular pipe.
An extended fender helps a lot in protecting the pipe.

When you look at the left one the collor looks clean the right does not. That's why i think it's blowing.

I don't know about that sand color…but I know that if you have the S10 idling for a long time….the blue will appear, circulating, the air will cool the headers

Thanks for all the input; love this forum! What is the best way to clean that baked on stuff off of the pipes, please?

Mine isn't quite as built up as your, but yeah, road grime/dirt. You don't have to ride in the rain. Puddles will do the same thing. And with y'all's moisture, nothing's dry.

I figured it was caked on dirt but never thought about the location in relation to the front wheel. Mine never gets like that but I've also had an extended fender since day one. Makes sense now.

Try some toilet cleaner with a limescale remover.

Apply with say an old wash-up brush carefully after masking the paintwork & anything you hold dear. Wear strong rubber gloves & eye protection too. Work it in for a while, then rinse/repeat. Keep it away from the studs/fixings. They won't ever be perfect, as that can only be achieved by removal & detail polishing, but they can be made a whole lot better. Finally, remember the environment, so have something under the bike to catch the waste fluids.

Steel wool helps remove dirt. the finest thread wool. The thick thread will remove faster, but will cause scratches.

Yup, looks like baked on road crap to me too

my preferred Stainless cleaner is Bar Keepers Friend, powder version. Mostly oxalic acid. Been around for over 50 years. Originally sold specifically for cleaninG SS

OTOH, something to be said for the “Rode Hard” look.
