So Ive been waiting for a S10 to pop up local for a couple months, the big BMW/Triumph Dealer got one this week. Contact a salesmen to verify where the bike was as they have two locations in town. He was not working today, so just said see anyone when you get there. Okay Great.

Spent 4 hours last night taking crap off my Versys that I want to keep and giving it a bath figuring its a fair shot ill take a new bike home. Cancel plans with friends for a ride so I can get to the dealership when they open.

Get there, do a lap around their lot on my bike don't see the S10 hmmmm
Go inside 4 salesmen standing there, don't even bother to say Hi to me hmmmmmm
Do a lap of the interior, no S10, ask one of the salesmen if they know where the used S10 is. "Not sure" then he literally turned away from me and kept going a conversation with another of the sales staff......
Needless to say I left.

Decided to email the salesman I had talked to. Just to let him know what was going on, on his day off. Get a call from sales manager, saying that shouldn't have happened and to come back they had the bike on the back lot. So I drive across town again, get there, take a look at the bike, go inside to start talking numbers and trade value. Then he drops this cherry..... "yeah Ill make sure to rush it through the used inspection so should only take 2 weeks till you can pick it up"

Why list a bike that is 3 weeks from being ready for sale? What the heck kind of inspection takes 2 weeks? Sheesh,I just left. Didn't even say anything.

Where the heck you at? WTF is this inspection crap?

Recognizing you may not have the luxury of time, take a look on here and over on ADVRider. There are a good few screaming deals on well set up bikes. Do a fly and ride. Unless of course you are over in EU.... Then based on what I have read here, best of luck to ya!

Vegas, There are plenty in the LA, Phoenix etc, area I can just take the truck and go get in a day. But had been holding out for a local dealership (or one in a days drive) so I could do a trade in and not have to sell my current bike on CL I just hate selling vehicles on there. I'm thankfully in the bike so right, that the dealer is actually paying me more as a trade in then I paid for it when I bought it 2 years and 29,000 miles ago.

Pretty much decided just to roll the dice and buy private party one in LA and one in PHX I am looking at just trying to deiced between the two. One has factory luggage that Ill probably never use, and the other has 10,000 less miles. Just weighing those out in my head. Think the luggage will be better for resale down the road but....

Which Vegas dealer is that, so I can avoid them? I’m assuming their “inspection” is their own internal process...

I'm assuming the inspection is for them to accurately price the bike, this is how most used car dealerships work.

Say they get a bike that's totally haggard and needs $2k of work to be retailable, at that point they can make the decision to sell it as-is, wholesale it, or fix it for retail. If they sell the bike at $2k above cost and then realize that it needs $2k+ worth of work to meet their/government standards, they just busted their ass to not make a single penny and maybe lose some.

Two weeks is obscene though. Most car dealerships aim for 48hours, from the time the vehicle lands to when it's on the lot.

EuroCycle on Sahara. Because they had it listed, I assume they had already given it a good once over as it was washed and pictures/video done. Sure they have to do the hands on stuff like make sure the pinch bolts are torqued so a wheel wont fall off pulling out of the parking lot type thing is the actual inspection.

I just couldn't see the time line, I mean Monday afternoon sure, but two weeks wow. Granted they are a large BMW rental company so they probably have techs doing nothing but trying to keep the fleet running.

I watched the video for the bike in Las Vegas, looks to be in good condition and priced fair. I hate a lot of the antics some dealers pull but if it's the bike I really want I just swallow hard and play along with their silly games, make a deal, get the bike and never go back. Their loss.

The reason I'm currently riding a S10 is I went into a Suzuki dealership with my wife and was talking to some of the store employees and in the course of conversation said, 'Well, you guys need to sell me an '2018 (DL)1000'.....
The salesman chuckled and walked away.... My wife looked at with an incredulous expression...as I'm sure was on my face. So we walked out, went down to the Yamaha store and bought the Ten. They didn't laugh when I told them what I wanted..

I feel fortunate to have a good dealer nearby. Not sure of their service dept. yet, but everything I've done with them so far has been a pleasure. 600 mile check coming up!

I went to the local Yamaha/Honda dealer told them I was interested in a new Tenere. The salesman I talked to didn’t even know what a Tenere was. After he looked it up he tried to sell me an Africa Twin telling me how much better the Africa Twin was, blah blah blah and how they couldn’t sell a Tenere in our area because no one would want one.

I found one two hours away, made the deal over the phone drove down and picked it up.

To rub it in, I later stopped by on my new bike and asked about the Y.E.S. Extended contact and told the finance guy I would like to buy local. He quoted me $998 for the 4 year contract. Yamaha sent me a mailer selling it for $690.

Thanks to this forum there’s a dealer who will sell it for about half the Yamaha amount.

I made the mistake of stopping in the local dealer looking for a new ADV helmet yesterday with my wife. They had one brand, LS2 and no one even approached us. And these brick and Mortar stores wonder why they are loosing business to the online market.

If I need service on my Tenere, would I trust a dealer who’s sales guy doesn’t even know what one is?
Disgusted.

Back when I was riding the Beemer, I got the distinct impression that the dealership was only interested in keeping the "real" BMW riders happy. And, since the profit margin on a Yamaha is nowhere close to the Beemer's….and they won't be servicing the Yamaha very often....I'm not surprised by your experience. It was one of, if not the main, reason(s) that we made the switch to the Honda. Like dannyv, I am very fortunate to have the dealer that I do. I buy my accessories there, because they price match. And the service guys are fantastic. My sympathies to out to y'all with crappy dealers.

Granted service and sales are completely different departments (in a former life I was a dealership car mechanic). If its anything like car dealers they burn through salesmen at a frightening rate. I can forgive someone not knowing the inventory, lots and lots to learn. I can't forgive lies like telling you the ATwin is better without even knowing what the S10 is!

Most of the dealers in my area don't carry bikes in stock anymore. Yamaha dealer down the road has not one motorcycle!

All side by side business here, or so it seems. I rode to AR for my valve service. Couldn't find a local dealer that had a clue. Even in Memphis. One in AL quoted me $900 for a valve check and more if they had to re-shim.

If you're still looking, check out Factory Powersports in St George. The Sales staff has been pretty decent. I bought my '12 from them and they did service work and tires for me for years under various names. Was Moto Zoo before. I believe Moto Zoo still owns Factory Motorsports, but they have changed names a few times and moved a few times since Moto Zoo moved into the new location.

Ill make sure to keep an eye on their website.

 Whaaaat?! What DO they have in stock?
If its anything like the bigger dealers I've seen lately, they are going heavy on side by sides. The 2 Ride Now dealerships I drive past regularly dont even put bikes outside anymore. Its all SxS on display outside. Sure they have an inventory of bikes inside, but 6-8 months ago it would have been a pile of bikes outside everyday, no longer.
