My morimoto kit just arrived and will be installing on Sunday

This is the only kit I use in my vehicles now... Had two ddm's burn harnesses in my G8. The kit from retrofitsource is top notch.
Yeah, a bit of research has turned up mixed reviews of DDM and I don't want to have to worry about headlight reliability on a trip far from home.

Very interested in hearing your thoughts on the Morimoto installation and beam brightness/pattern after you get the kit fitted.

I don't want to jinx myself, but my current 55W DDM kit has been installed on the Tenere for 19k miles...and that is its second install! I had them in my Buell 1125CR for 15k miles before that.

I figure if something goes wrong on the road, I can always swap back to a std H7 from any autoparts store to get me home, but until that point I would have enjoyed excellent light and a pile of cash still in my wallet.

Nothing is more frightening when you are sitting in your driveway and you smell burning coming from under your hood of your #611 of 1800 car. Twice.. Thought was maybe user error... Nope.

The lights from theretrofitsource are amazing. Quality is top notch. I'll post pics of the parts when I get home and try to do a install how to. I seen it was done already. I'll be following that, maybe changing stuff up... But I will post...

After several months of procrastination I installed my HIDs today. Anyone else have to crimp the S10 headlight plug connectors? THe spade connectors on the HID lights barely held in place and on one side they unplugged themselves when twisting on the headlight cap. Also the 194 CREE bulb I bought would not seat in the socket as the base was way big. Guess I will have to keep looking.

During a little winter maitenance I thought I would pull out the DDM 35watt bulbs that have been installed for about a year and 22,000 km and have a look. Both were still working.
There seemed to be some kind of transfer from the ceramic rod to the bulb glass itself (white spot in the middle). Not sure how good this is for bulb life, and especially any chance of them breaking and contaminating the headlight housing. I changed them out for the Morimoto XB35 watt 6000K bulbs and ballasts.

The XB35 and the DDM. You can also just see some warping of the bulb base on the DDM

I have the DDM ballasts and igniters mounted on the left and right sides, just back of the headlight housing on a couple of alluminum plates that fit in and the setup clears the forks fine with about 1/2 inch of clearence . The Morimoto have the igniters as part of the ballast and are a little more compact, but about 1/4 inch thicker than the DDMs. The Morimotos went back in the same location without any problem.

Crappy bench test pic. of the DDM 35 watt 4500K on the left (at least thats what I ordered. No identification on the bulbs or box) and the Morimoto XB35 watt 6000K.
Piece of cardboard between them and shinning on a white cloth.
Also had a good look inside the headlight housing after the year of operation and I don't see any damage or contamination of the reflectors which is why I wanted to have a look in the first place.

Thanks for posting your install pics LowAndSilent. I gave up a couple times on my 2014 due to not enough space. However when using your placements it all came together nicely. Thanks again! ::003::

A zombie thread, I realize, but a handy resource for me to install mine.

My thanks to the OP for the work.
