Data help about TFX shock (not solved at all)

I don't see how damping settings can affect ride height, that highlighted comment seems to be in error. Also high and low speed damping settings refer to the speed of shock movement, not the speed of the motorcycle. A sharp edge or a pot hole would invoke the high speed damping whereas gentle rises and dips, as well as suspension loads as a result of cornering would involve low speed damping. Unsettled wobbling or excessive movement going into and out of twisty corners would call for more low speed damping.

In the end suspension is highly individual, the factory or supplier recommended settings should be considered only as a starting point. You have to adjust from there to suit your preferences.
Boy Jeff ain't that the truth!! I have been really lucky with my suspension tuners. Both of my "go to" guys ride the same kind of stuff I do. So everything works right after it's bolted on with very little clicker adjustments needed. With the Super Tenere I'm thinking it's going to be a challenge just for the fact you have so much weight added and removed for different rides.

Adventure bikes are definitely a challenge and need perhaps a larger window of adjustability than most other bike genres. A close second might be sport touring bikes (FJR, ST1300, etc) since they can run anywhere from bagless sportbike like strafing of the canyons to full bags, top box and pillion, running down the interstate.

I answer to my post with new informations from TFX suspensions support who have answered to my second mail, digital hazards I guess ;), just in case it helps.

"Hi Patrick (yes it's me)
Thank you for your email.
Unfortunately we don’t receive that much information from OTR.
Only the fact that your weight was 100kg. We used a spring of 160N/mm and 15mm PL.
This is the correct spring for your weight.

The sag should be:
Free Sag R1 - R2 = 42 mm
and
Ride Height R1 - R3 = 73 mm

If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask.

Best regards, Mit freundlichem Gruss, Met vriendelijke groet,
Hans-Dieter Fischer"

So to resume the answer, they din't gave me a 30% rider sag but an almost 40%, 73 mm vs 57 mm, thus 20 mm difference, which is not nothing IMO.
As I'm not a suspension specialist, I've send TFX another mail asking about these 20 mm difference, I wait for another answer and I 'll post here the result if there's one.
Do you mind if I asked how much you payed for the TFX shock? Is it the IFP shock or Reservoir shock? I spoke with Ted porter a couple days ago about ordering one for my bike. I tried to adjust the sag on the factory but could only get to 70mm with just rider. Ted recommended the TFX IFP for me because I do not do a lot of off road.

Do you have it dialed in now? Are you happy with the shock? What is the percentage of off-road riding you do?

- First, I have reached an almost correct adjustment on road, but at the expense of the comfort of driving.
And therefore inevitably, in off-road the suspension is too hard, and on rough terrain or stones the traction control is triggered almost all the time, even set on mid pos.
So for now, I've not found any satisfying average settings which could do the job on road and off road.

- Second, I ride 20 to 50 percent off-road, depending of routes and meteo.

- Third, I still didn't have any clear answer from TFX support about which comp adjuster do what, previous post with pics in this thread (I will post later the last answer given by support).

I know, I do not help you much... :(

As promised, small update of my soap opera with TFX :

My last question to their support was :
- Which adjuster between Low Comp and Hi Comp affects comfort and behavior of the bike on small bumps ?

The answer :

1.jpg

Cool  I tell myself, finally a crystal clear answer :)
- BUT !!... this answer is the perfect opposite of what is stated in the TFX manual received with the damper :

TFX HS-LS.jpg

... so another last question to their support :

2.jpg

... and their another last answer too :

3.jpg

... and no news since this definitive last answer on last August 26th (about twenty days now).

So to conclude the saga, I have no more illusions about the after-sales service of this brand.
It is possible that their products are very reliable and powerful, but in the other hand it is absolutely certain that you will never have any competent person to talk to, and capable enough to give clear answers to some basic questions at TFX' support.
:(

My advice :
Don't buy
