My dad is pushing 80. Been riding since I can remember. He is a great Rider never had a wreck has had multiple bikes over the years and at his age can outdo me in the twisties no problem. He just traded in his 2012 FJR which is the longest bike he's kept for a 2019 Triumph Scrambler XC it is a beautiful bike! It's actually got wheels turning in my head!

Good for him. When I was a kid in 68. A guy pulled up to school on a new Bonneville. I was hooked ever since. I went the 2 stroke RD350 route.

Sir, step away from the Triumph. :D
I have a Triumph Speedmaster for a second bike (2011)...but I'm going to be with my Tenere for a long time. If anything, I'd keep the Tenere and trade the Speedmaster for a Scrambler. Scrambler is not as suited for motocamping. But I will say that Triumph is building some nice bikes.

A local buddy has a new Tex 1200 Explorer and it's really sharp. Makes the Tenere feel small but then he is 6'6"

My Dad takes in his brand new bike for 500 mile service to dealership......(My Dad is a take his bike to dealership for regular service eventhough he is a darn good mechanic...) Well did I mention, 500 Mile service? Bike needs a water pump and fork seals are blown, leaking........Told him they need to keep his new bike for at least 3 weeks to wait on parts. ALSO!!!! Tried to tell him it may not be covered under warranty because fork seals and water pump is considered a wear item!!! 500 miles!!!! My Dad said he didn't notice water pump leaking and there was NO coolant spilled on his garage floor...so he's puzzled about that and no oil as in fork oil spilled anywhere? Acted like they are doing him a favor by asking Triumph to cover it under warranty!!!! Then the mechanic goes on to tell him that sometimes parts get jostled (water pump and fork seals) when the bike is shipped from England!!! (As if my Dad didn't know the bike comes in a crate and is put together at dealership) And the Scrambler is meant to do some off-roading...so...some jostling should NOT break a water pump. And should NOT blow fork seals! Other sad part is my Dad was getting ready to do a lot of riding, just added a new windscreen the night before and had been waiting for the right weather as the weather hasn't been the best riding conditions since he got the bike.

Wow!! Sorry to hear that. I grew up with Triumphs and BSA's. It's what my dad rode. My pop gave up riding at about 72 years old. Had a close call and he was done. I really wish you the best getting that bike back on the road so he can ride.

It's outrageous the dealership would be anything other than embarrassed and very apologetic about the situation with his brand new bike. I'd be looking for a new Triumph dealer. The ownership at your dad's place is lacking to say the least.

On the other hand, your description of your dad at 80 is inspirational. I don't dare dream I'll still be riding at his level by that age...or even still riding. One can hope.

Hmmm.
I test rode a new Storm a few years ago, when I got back to the dealer I had oil all over my boot and pants leg. Looked like the side cover gasket leaked.
The dealer offered to take a $100 off the price.

I’ve recently had an itch for a SpeedTwin but I’m kinda reluctant.
Wish your Dad luck with his new bike, pretty disappointing just coming off an FJR which I imagine he never had a bit of trouble with.
