If you are really planning on riding a big trailee off-tarmac at speed regularly like this video depicts, I'd strongly suggest investing in additional off-road rider training to eliminate bad habits, reinforce skills, & build confidence. a different bike - preferably a single, but if not that, then the KTM990 or F800GS.

Sorry Mark. Edited for the benefit of the folks who have extensive experience on asphalt, but limited time off-road. I've witnessed too many competent street riders come over to the dirt & get in way over their head, sometimes with painful and expensive results.

"Wadaya mean I'm going to ride a puny 200 two-stroke for the first few hours? I'll have you know I have a Ducati xxx for the street, and I placed 17th in the Superbike Novice Class last season?" ::) <This will not end well>

I ride press bikes a lot. Remember, when you pick it up, you have to sign some forms and most of the time the insurance is good but still not covers all damage. Unless you are hit by someone else, you'll have to pay up to some amount of the repairs. I always keep that in mind before I even think about 'stunting' in front of a camera ;)

And it is easier to be brave on a press fleet bike that you don't have to fix! ;-) Regardless, I know that I am not going to be riding like that off-road, I simply do not have the skill.

I doubt that Yamaha is going to be pressing Cycle World very hard to pay out of pocket to fix a broken press bike when literally tens of thousands of sales are riding on what they publish about the bike.

If you really use then as they were intended ... you will end up chucking it up a dirt track at some point. I can't fetch myself to be too enthusistic just yet but everytime I take it off road I get a little more reckless ::)
C'mon Swagger, it's just a machine.:)

A couple of scratches and blemishes will appear eventually. Knowing that, just get on and ride. You may fall, you may not. I plan on taking mine to the milder set of dirt bike trails shortly after delivery to see how a huge dirt bike feels. My 45 horse, 230 lb. dirt bike is a feather compared to this thing! I've never had an adv bike of any size so I've got a lot to learn and I might as well get on with it.

So, I sure hope I don't drop it but I might. I just hope to come to terms with its mass sooner rather than later. I got places to go and I ain't gettin' any younger! 8)
